Ahh! Real Films

Welcome ladies, germs, and people of all genders! Join Taylor & Curtis as we cover two films that center on the mad scientist trope. We give an overview of this trope in horror and sci fi before diving into a classic and another film that's a bit...heh...different. What does the mad scientist trope have to offer horror? How does this trope differ from film to film? Are mad scientists relatable or even likable? How many times can we say "alllllrighty then" in a single episode? Listen and find out!

Welcome ladies, germs, and people of all genders! Join Taylor & Curtis as we continue (for the first time!) our Trilogy Throwdown series, this time covering the first three films of the Friday the 13th series! We dig through these three classics to discuss the finer points of the series: how the series was developed, how it grew into the iconic series it is today, and most importantly… whether these movies are any good! Do Taylor and Curtis even like these movies? Is it strange to open up a camp five years after a serial killer terrorized the area? Does Jason look better with a bag on his head? Listen and find out!

Welcome ladies, germs, and people of all genders! Join Taylor & Curtis as we reach into our Giant Mugs and pull out a movie that’s long been on our respective watchlist – that’s right, what you’ve all been waiting for, Taylor and Curtis Cover Movies They’ve Been Putting Off For Years! Everyone’s favorite, but we certainly have two good ones for you today as we cover a stone cold classic and a… divisive modern horror film. Is Curtis the “Homer” of the siblings? Does Taylor “well, actually” Curtis a lot? Are “debunkers” some of the dopest people on the planet? How many “air quotes” can you use in one write up? Er… well, listen and find out!

Welcome ladies, germs, and people of all genders! Join Taylor & Curtis as we cover two films from the most famous British horror production company of all time: Hammer! We provide a brief background and overview of Hammer films before diving in to a classic Hammer joint and one that is perhaps a bit outside the bounds of what is typically "Hammer." How many more times can I say Hammer? What is the best depiction of Dracula? Do you like the new segment, "Taylor's 60-Second Soap Box"? Does being in the same room for a recording make this podcast better or worse?? Listen and find out!

Welcome ladies, germs, and people of all genders! Join Taylor & Curtis as we begin our journey cataloguing our favorite 2021 films! We know there have been a few big tentpole releases (and a few to come!) so we wanted to cover a few underappreciated gems from this year – and most of them are actual movies as opposed to documentaries! Wow! Can Curtis and Taylor overcome their Jacksonville football-fueled depression? Does Curtis break the rules of the episode almost immediately? How many beers do we need to drink to focus on horror movies and forget our terribly depressing but beloved football team? Listen and find out!

Welcome ladies, germs, and people of all genders! Join Taylor & Curtis as we introduce a new series (yes another one): the trilogy throwdown! We will periodically be reviewing the first three films of a franchise with the goal of determining: which is the BEST?! Each time we review a new trilogy we'll determine if it was better than the previous one reviewed. Up first: Saw, of course! Join us as we reviews Saw, Saw II (II furious), and Saw III (the Saw-ening). Did we enjoy the Saw movies? What famous 00s franchise is James Wan not involved in? Did Jigsaw ever take a philosophy class? Is Amanda a pick me? Listen and find out!

Welcome ladies, germs, and people of all genders! Join Taylor & Curtis as we go back into the horror time machine once again, this time to the 1960s, to discuss gothic horror! Yes, we are going back to the 1960s to explore the first ever Hot Topic sto… oh wait, whoops wrong version of “goth” (we’re also not talking about the people who brought down the Roman Empire in the fifth century). No, instead of once again talking Tim Burton (Curtis’ favorite director) we’re discussing the cobweb filled, foggy, and presumably musty pioneering subgenre of gothic horror popularized from almost the advent of the genre. Does Curtis make this Hot Topic/Tim Burton joke multiple times? How many rubber bats can one movie have? Does Taylor always compliment child actors? Listen and find out! On THIS podcast… we cover it all!

Welcome ladies, germs, and people of all genders! Join Taylor & Curtis as we celebrate our birthdays Ahh! Real Films style! That's right, it's the third iteration of our annual birthday tradition, where we gift each other a horror film to watch. This time it is an accidental giallo episode (hehe) and we have a great time not only discussing the films, but the genre. What is Dario Argento's best film and why is it Suspiria? Does Goblin hide film plot points in the soundtracks they create? Who is Solange!?!?!? What film has us going "[M. Night Shyamalan], I wish I knew how to quit you"? Listen and find out!

Welcome ladies, germs, and people of all genders! Join Taylor & Curtis as we celebrate our 75th episode by dipping back into the vault and re-discussing one of our very earliest topics – in fact, the first topic! That’s right, we discuss our favorite horror movies of all time on this episode, as a nice little treat to you, the listener; or, rather, our DEAR listener. Certainly, the low quality of our first episode didn’t motivate this – no, it’s all about the listeners, ALWAYS! So, does Curtis finally confront the problematic aspects of Stanley Kubrick? Does Taylor’s dog Luna ever recover from a terrifying thunderclap? Were we able to keep the power on during our record or is this just an experimental episode where it’s 90 minutes of white noise? Listen and find out!!
