Please join me today in welcoming GeroPros founder Dr. Michelle Olson, a social gerontologist and creative arts therapist. Michelle has spent over two decades working closely with older adults in eldercare settings and also with their care partners in the community. In fact, it was Michelle’s desire to empower older adults and improve their care and support those who care for them, that propelled her to obtain a PhD in gerontology leadership.
As a gerontologist, Michelle recognizes that older people are all unique individuals from various walks of life with unique experiences over their lifecourse–these experiences and perceptions contribute to one’s aging process and well being.
As a licensed and board-certified and registered clinician, Michelle recognizes that the emotional, mental and spiritual health needs of older adults are often not given enough attention in fast-paced, medicalized settings where daily tasks are often prioritized–and challenging conversations and emotions are pushed aside.
Michelle’s mindful, empathic and holistic approach to eldercare includes slowing down, paying close attention, empowering older people and carers and providing opportunities for greater connections.

The world odometer indicates over 421,367 active cases and more than 18,810 Deaths and at least 108,388 recovered to date March 24, 2020. The World Health Organization has declared the situation a global pandemic.

Scientists who study the biology of Aging agreed that we would someday be able to slow down the aging process substantially.
Dr. Aubrey de Grey, Chief Science Officer at SENS Research Foundation and VP of New Technology Discovery at AgeX Therapeutics, believes that the critical biomedical technology required to eliminate aging derived debilitation and death is now within reach.
In his book “Ending Aging” he and his research assistant Michael Rae described the details of this biotechnology. They explained that the aging of the human body, just like the Aging of manmade machines, results from an accumulation of various types of damage. As with manmade machines, this damage can periodically be repaired, leading to the indefinite extension of the machines fully functional lifetime just as is routinely done with classic cars.
We already know what types of damage accumulate in the human body, and we are moving rapidly toward the comprehensive development of technologies to remove that damage.
By demystifying aging, Dr. Aubrey de Grey systematically dismantles the fatalist presumption that aging will forever defeat the efforts of medical science.
He is the author of “Ending Aging,” rejuvenation breakthroughs that could reverse human Aging in our lifetime. His book is available at Amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/Ending-Aging-Rejuvenation-Breakthroughs-Lifetime/dp/B01EBAP43C/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Ending+Aging+aubrey+de+grey&qid=1583555592&sr=8-1

The way I see it, healthcare is one of our generation's greatest challenges. Yet the industry desperately needs more funding, technology and most importantly, entrepreneurial attention. What could be more personal and more important to every individual, family and community than their health and wellness? For me, the answer is nothing.
Over the past twenty-five years, having worked in various healthcare companies and startups throughout North America, Asia (China/Vietnam) and Europe with diversified interests in acuity (clinical operations), digital aging, technology, finance (credit rating and underwriting) and consumer products, I have found that healthcare industry employees are connected by many common interests. What unites them however, beyond their vocation, is an abiding devotion to helping others live better lives. In sum, it's about the service of caring.
I am committed to finding better solutions (think: Platforming and AI/Blockchain consilience), discovering overlooked opportunities in supply chains and implementing disruptive technologies to leverage advantages (think: e
If you are caring for a loved one with dementia (or the hundreds of forms of dementia), it is important to understand how the brain works. What is the purpose of your brain? The brain controls and coordinates actions and reactions that allow us to think and feel and enables us to have memories and feelings—all the things that make us human.

Dementia is a disease / condition that is characterized by a decline in memory, language, problem-solving, and other thinking skills. This condition will affect a person's ability to perform everyday activities such as memory loss. Is Alzheimer's the most common cause of dementia?
Dementia is a very broad word and all it means is having a cognitive problem that makes one unable to carry out previous activities that can be difficulty with doing finances or calculating a tip, missing appointments, unable to drive without getting lost. Anything that changes you cognitively could do that. That could be a traumatic brain injury or a stroke could make one demented, so the word is so broad, it's almost vacuous. What most people are talking about when they talk about dementing diseases is Alzheimer's disease, so Alzheimer's disease is this specific kind of dementia like a Rose is a kind of flower. Alzheimer's is a kind of dementia. It accounts for about 80% of all dementias and we can make that diagnosis. When somebody comes to us with progressive cognitive problems that were gradual and onset and progressively get worse, it usually starts with memory loss manifested by repeating questions and not be able to retain information in short term memory, long-term memory, totally fine. Short term memory, very problematic. Gradually that gives rise to a dementia. Problems with preparing finance, doing finances, making appointments, taking medications, getting lost, and then we can make the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.
