Happy New Year! We’re back with our first episode of 2023 in conversation with the UK’s youngest Black Professor, Jason Arday, Professor of Sociology of Education at the University of Glasgow. This is a special episode for the network as it was our first LIVE podcast with an in-person audience as we hosted a JADE Conversation (Justice, Anti-Racism against Discrimination and the fight for its Elimination) with the GEM Staff Network.

This fascinating conversation covers Jason’s journey into academia, having been diagnosed with Global Developmental Delay Autism when he was 3 and learning to read and write at aged 18. Jason’s inspirational approach to setting boundaries and maintaining his integrity throughout his life choices made this conversation powerful, impactful and thought provoking and we were really pleased that Jason agreed to take part.

Take a listen to learn more about his first interaction with a professor at a young age, his journey as a mature student and the steps you can take to progress your career no matter your field.

We're a huge fan of pulling the curtains back and letting you see behind the scenes. Earlier this year, we needed help turning the vision for our three shows (Before Our Friends Die, SOFA SENSEI'S and Cool.Fine.Done.Wicked) into a reality, so we enlisted the skill of professional photographer, Latrice Grant. Waaay back in March, we had a 2 HOUR consultation with him to ensure we were all on the same page and what you hear is the last 15 minutes of that chat where we summarise our ideas. It's facinating stuff.

Fast forward to now, we're about to release the images for you to see and we're super excited about it so head over to our instagram (@akhiandsaltfish), check out the visions, like, share and comment - let us know what you think!

Follow Latrice Grant and support his work now! https://www.instagram.com/latricegrant.oyc/

Hello, we are back with another episode of Before Our Friends Die. This is an important episode where we put a spotlight on Mental Coffee. A Northampton based organisation that encourages men (and for the first time, women!) to come together, have a coffee, and talk! That can be about struggles or not. It can be about solutions, or not. They're not pushy, but they are open.

We really enjoyed getting together with Brendon to have this chat and delve into his character, why he created the brand and why it is so, so needed.

Get stuck in and have a listen, we're sure you'll leave with something.

The next meet for men @MentalCoffeeNN is December 10th at 10:30 am, in Northampton at Bewiched Coffee, Moulton Park.

The next meet for women is December 11th at 10:30 am, in the same location.

This episode is supported by Gambling Education Network (GEN). They’re not anti-gambling by any means, everyone is free to choose what they do with their money but they’ve got teams of people who have either had problems with gambling before themselves or they’ve lived with someone that has. They’re there to give you a different perspective and offer support if you need it. Their website is: www.gamblingeducationnetwork.com.

GEN recently commissioned with their partner charity YGAM, a short film called “Do It For Her” DO IT FOR HER (2021) Drama Short Film | MYM

ALSO: The Samaritans can be great if you need to talk to a supportive stranger about something. They can be contacted 24/7, 365 days a year on 116 123.
