Alderan Resources (ASX: AL8) managing director Scott Caithness joins Small Caps to discuss the company's upcoming exploration plans at its flagship Detroit copper-gold project in Utah, United States. Detroit is one of four projects the company holds in the US state and lies within a mining district that contains numerous historical copper, gold and manganese mines. The project has shown strong potential for porphyry-related copper and gold deposits with rock samples assaying up to 3.2% copper and 9.1 grams per tonne of gold. Alderan plans to test seven separate targets at Detroit with a 3,000-metre drilling program and is just awaiting drill rig availability to begin. The company also recently secured an option agreement over the historic Drum gold mine which abuts the Detroit tenement to the south. The mine produced 125,000 ounces of gold from 3.2 million tonnes of ore grading 1.22 grams per tonne gold before it closed in 1989.
