Sorry for the bad audio. Vatican I: https://www.papalencyclicals.net/councils/ecum20.htm Sede turned atheist website: http://unamsanctamecclesiamcatholicam.blogspot.com/2016/09/pope-francis-convinced-me-that-atheism.html Positions within Roman Catholicism: -Cultural (nominal) Catholic (“I went to Catholic school”) -Conservative Novus Ordo (Catholic Answers, mainline Catholic commentators) -Liberal Novus Ordo (James Martin) -R&R in communion with Rome (Taylor Marshall) -R&R out of communion with Rome (SSPX) -Sedevacantism - totalist (SSPV) -Sedeprivationism (independent priests) -Conclavism (nobody serious) Coping strategies for the 'situation': -It is the liberal Bishops and not the pope who are responsible. -The council was ambiguous and the wrong interpretation was given. -The real Pope is being held captive and a look-alike imposter has taken over. -The pope didn't speak ex cathedra. -The council was only a pastoral Council. -Nowadays it seems that it can sometimes happen that the poop teaches error. When he does, we -must continue to recognize his authority, but hold fast and resist whatever erroneous teaching or evil -commands he may give. (R&R) -The pope and Bishops have embraced the apostasy of the new religion and have thereby lost their offices. All the seats are empty, including that of the Pope and we are today without any hierarchy whatsoever. (sedevacantism) -Because the Papal elections are valid, the current 'popes' have a certain legal status as popes, but because they are apostates they can have no actual authority over the Church. (sedeprivationism) Points Refuting Sedeprivationism 1) The pope can never abandon his leadership of the church. Response: He doesn’t abandon the leadership of the church as pope because he loses the office ipso facto 2) The purpose of the Papacy is to maintain unity. Unity means common communion! Response: If a faithful Catholic from another chapel or from the Novus Ordo church presented themself here for communion I would not deny them. 3) Common faith is a permanent feature of the papacy. Response: The faith has continued - it’s just that what used to be the structure of the Church is being inhabited by non-Catholics. The current popes are merely placeholders until we have a truly Catholic pope. It’s no different than an interregnum. 4) No man, including you, Fr. ---------, can judge the Roman Pontiff. Response: He is not the Pope. It’s as obvious as if you held up a red sheet in front of my eyes and told me it’s green. 5) You commune with manifest heretics (sedevacantists etc). Response: They are in good faith still. It’s a very complicated situation and we are all doing our best to maintain the faith despite it. 6) Relying ultimately on private judgement ultimately makes your position just Protestantism with more documents. Response: I don’t deny the living magisterium. Just because there are interregnums doesn’t mean that there is no living magisterium. Me: But in this case there is an ongoing lack of capacity for resolving disputes which has led to most of the faithful being led into error. That's not the same as an interregnum. 7) A distinctive feature of schismatic sects is further schism. Response: I already dealt with these objections. I get it, your argument comes down to “you don’t need the Pope” Me: Yes, you are able to give an explanation of how there is common faith and communion m........
