Growing your business on pinterest
“The one thing people don’t understand about Pinterest is it’s a search engine, it’s essentially Google with pictures.”
Missy Campbell
Podcast 125 talks to Missy Campbell, an expert when it comes to Instagram and Pinterest. Missy has a business that helps people infuse minimalism into their business using social media strategy, implementation and podcast management. She shares simple tips that you can implement into your network marketing business.
Missy was obsessed with Pinterest and Instagram because as a photographer she loved visual things. They're such powerful platforms. A lot of people think of them as fun and I'm just posting pictures, but there is a bit of a strategy to it. If you can understand the why of it and how it works, it can really work for you and you can spend less time doing it and get a lot more benefit from using them.
“The point of Pinterest is traffic.” - Missy Campbell.
With every image that you make, you want to send somebody somewhere. It could be to your Instagram account, could be to your group. It could be to a page where they sign up to find out more from you like an email list, your Facebook page or however you have your funnel structured for people to connect with you. Really think outside the box because you’re not just sending them to a blog post, it's literally anywhere on the internet.
Pinterest is a fun way of marketing and understanding the basics is keywords. What phrases and words are people going to be searching for if they are interested in what you have to offer. That’s how you will create your board structure. Each one should be specific, related to the thing that you are selling. Really bring your personality to what you’re doing, but don’t keep it super professional and businesslike because people really want to connect with the human aspect.
The thing with Pinterest, and this is all compared to other social media, is that it’s really in the setup process, it gains momentum without you doing anything.
Once you have set it up and started pinning to collaborative boards and you've joined communities, you have created this ball and it just keeps rolling. It doesn't stop. And it's not like with other social media, Instagram, Facebook, you post and within a week, it's dissipated into the atmosphere. It's gone forever, mostly, unless it's viral. But with Pinterest, a pin can have a lifespan of almost forever, there's pins that are 10 years old that still probably get pinned thousands of times a month.
The best part about Pinterest is you can really be yourself because it is so visual. It’s so easy to do because pictures say so much about who we are, what pictures we use, how we edit them, or even if we don't edit them, if they're raw that says something about us. Keep it true, just be you, really that is what people want.
“When you are posting, keep it conversational and friendly, not super professional, obviously you want to be an authority, but you want to be human too. Humanness is the more important piece.” - Missy Campbell.
If you can get in front of your person and say what you want to say, serve them, be there for them, show them that you're human, just like them. That's really the point of it.
