Stephen Willeford engaged and shot the active shooter 6 times before chasing him to where he ultimately stopped and killed himself.

The Sutherland Springs church shooting occurred on November 5, 2017, when Devin Patrick Kelley of New Braunfels, Texas, fatally shot 26 people and wounded 20 others during a mass shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. The attack was the deadliest mass shooting in Texas and the fifth-deadliest mass shooting in the United States.[2][note 1] It was the deadliest shooting in an American place of worship in modern history, surpassing the Charleston church shooting of 2015[3] and the Waddell Buddhist temple shooting of 1991

A few minutes after 11 a.m., Kelley arrived in a pearl white Ford Explorer SUV at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs.

Around 11:20 a.m., Kelley stepped out of the SUV, wearing black tactical gear, a ballistic vest, and a black face-mask featuring a white skull and wielding a Ruger AR-556 semi-automatic rifle. He approached the church from the right, opening fire on and killing two people outside the church and continuing to fire on the building itself. He then entered through a right side door, where worshipers were attending regular Sunday service

The nation's two largest teachers' unions want schools to revise or eliminate active shooter drills, asserting Tuesday that they can harm students' mental health and that there are better ways to prepare for the possibility of a school shooting. 

The American Federation of Teachers and National Education Association joined with the advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund in calling for an end to unannounced drills or drills that simulate gun violence.

A man opened fire in a Texas church, killing two, then dies when he's shot by an armed citizen.  43 Y/O Keith Kinnunan was killed when an armed church parishioner and member of the volunteer church security team, Jack Wilson, pulled his sidearm and returned fire, hitting the gunman in the head.

16-year-old Saugus High School shooter opened fire for 16 seconds on November 14th killing two and wounding 3 more before killing himself.  By all accounts this was a normal, well liked athlete at the school.  No motive has been determined.

The suspect, identified Friday as Nathaniel Tennosuke Berhow, fatally shot two classmates and injured three others at the Santa Clarita, CA school before shooting himself in the head with his last bullet during the 16-second attack.

The gunman pulled a weapon out of his backpack around 7:30 a.m. local time and opened fire at the school, which has a student population of about 2,500 in grades 9-12. He shot five students in the quad area with a 45-caliber semi-automatic handgun before shooting himself.

The gun then apparently jammed, Villanueva said, and the shooter was forced to take time to fix it before firing a second round and then injuring the remaining four students. Then, he used the last round on himself.

In this episode we discuss what the "L" in ALIVE stands for - LEAVE!  Former ALIVE student and Route 91 Las Vegas active shooter survivor Liz Moreno stated in her interview with Channel 7 News that she remembered the LEAVE lesson from the ALIVE training and ran out of the area of danger rather than staying on the ground in front of the stage and says that is what saved her life.

We discuss Joker the movie as a blueprint of the same issues and lack of proper coping skills that create so many active shooters and will be copied and referenced in active shooter incidents to come.

When an active shooter/killer, such as a known or random gunman, opens fire, on average nearly a dozen injuries and at least three deaths occur. Being prepared is the best tool for survival for you and your employees.

If an unstable employee, ex-employee, or employee family member entered your workplace with a weapon, would you know what to do? This is a serious question that every safety manager, human resources, risk management professional and employee should be able to confidently answer “YES”!
