What's the difference between submission and surrender?

Both of these terms hold the essence of letting go, but there’s a fine line between the two of them.

Surrender can be an embodied state that supports our ability to create our desires and experience life as it is, while submission can be where we fall into the false idea that “it is what it is.” 

In this episode, Alison shares the nuances between these two energies to support you in spotting where you might be surrendering versus where you might be submitting so you can realign toward surrender.

“This is a very natural human longing to surrender to life — to stop trying to take care of what clearly cannot be taken care of. And then there's submission — the following of the rules, the doing what we feel we should do, the “I don't see any other alternatives, so I'll just do this,” and it's a very, very, very fine line.”

Drawing from her own experience, she explores the shame, anger, and upset that arises when our beliefs about love and trust are shattered, and how it feels like everything we thought was true has been taken away.

In April, Alison created an experimental offering in which she invited a few of her existing clients to participate in, called Elevate. During this experience, Alison facilitated the group through Toad medicine work, which is a psychedelic, paired with intense breathwork. 

Two of the participants, Alyssa and Francesca, share their experience working with the medicine and the container. They share the transformation they’ve received that’s still very much unfolding for them, including relieving anxiety, experiencing a deep flow in their lives, and the development of their spirituality.

They also share incredibly valuable insights around integration and for the importance of working with an aligned facilitator when working with Earth Medicine. 

Both Alyssa and Francesca participated in Alison’s Expand and Empower programs prior to this experience, and they discuss the importance of the healing work they did in those containers prior to this experience.

“My soul literally came out of my body and stretched and I was grounded and connected from above. When I was put back together again, my brain was out. It was like by the fire out of my body. For me, that's a really important conscious reminder to think less and do with intuition, do with a level of presence and consciousness without thinking. 

The less I think, the more productive I am in my life, in my business. So that's the state I'm always seeking to be in.”
