All About Now

Aishwarya Mohanraj loves a lot of people. This includes her school principal, her domestic help and Salman Khan... in no particular order.

It's episode 6 of How To Citizen and the hosts, Meghnad and Shreyas, are joined by comedian Aishwarya Mohanraj. Together, they do an extra dramatic reading of a longest comic they have encountered till date in 8th grade civics. A comic that deals with our broken justice system and how police operate. The comic is so long that Meghnad starts thinking about how there is an inbuilt Marvel Universe style crossovers happening between chapters. Our hosts are clearly super obsessed with this book.

Do we need a Parliament even? I mean, what's the point really. It's not like elected representatives wait for citizen consent to do things, right?

Wrong. At least according to our 8th grade Civics book. Our guest for this podcast, comedian Prashasthi Singh, has much to say about her representative for Amethi. Wonder who that is? Our hosts, Meghnad and Shreyas, also have a lot to say about their representative from Nagpur. Who is that again?

In the first episode of How to Citizen, Rohan Joshi discusses chapter 1 of 8th grade CBSE Civics textbook titled "Constitution".

The participants of this intensive exercise discuss why we even need a Constitution and get philosophical with a heavy dose of lulz. Many deep questions are asked and answered like whether the Constitution is a document which tells us what India is or what it's supposed to be, whether we have personal constitutions which are being amended and why playing cricket in Mumbai is hilarious because of the application of non-constitutional environmental rules.

There is a world of difference between the theory we learnt in school and the reality we experience everyday. This is especially true about Civics. This podcast lays bare the gap between what textbooks preach to school kids about politics and what we actually see in Indian politics.

Starting with the 8th Grade CBSE CIvics textbook, every episode will have a guest who will talk about their reflections, doubts and takeaways from reading the chapter. The podcast will be hosted by Meghnad S and co-hosted by Shreyas Manohar. Every episode situates the guest at their hang-out spot from 8th grade, and recreates the vibe of friends revising for an exam moments before it starts.

So let's get schooling, let's get schooled and let's learn how to citizen!
