Create friction for things you do not want to do. Make it annoying or difficult to do that thing. Want to be on your phone less? Put your phone charger in the other room and not at your desk or next to your bed.

Eliminate friction for all the things you do want to do. Make it super easy and eliminate choice. Want to exercise more? Put your running shoes at the foot of the bed.

Procrastination has its perks! Hear me out…

We spend a lot of time putting ourselves in crazy situations and as a result, we’re often better at navigating those situations than others.

For example, too often we wait till the absolute last minute to start a project that a “normal” person would have started weeks or months ago. This repeated behavior, while not healthy nor encouraged, has resulted in some unintended and positive outcomes like being really good at problem-solving with little time, limited resources, and a lot of stress.

How can you leverage that skill before you’re up against your next big deadline?

One of my favorite Seneca quotes is, “We suffer more often in imagination than in reality.”

I think about my imagination as being on a spectrum of suffering with the most intense versions on each end.

On one side I can imagine defeat and failure for an idea before even attempting it and on the other side, I can imagine ridiculous amounts of success.

I’ve become comfortable with exploring both ends and using that contrast to help ground me in the middle, where reality resides.

Having ADHD often means you are more sensitive and have higher swings in emotions. In other words, you tend to feel things more deeply than others. This can be a struggle in relationships (including the one with yourself) but it’s also the reason so many people with ADHD are incredible artists. The better you can get at navigating and tapping into these emotions the better you’ll be in your relationships and creative work.

You often hear a lot about "time” management but very little about "energy” management, even though the latter is a much more accurate and useful metric when seeking better productivity.

Time is easy to track. We have watches, calendars, and even the sun to help manage our day. Energy is much harder to track. We can't just look at our wrists and have a watch that tells us how much energy and focus we have at any given moment.

Time is consistent; 3 pm will show up at the same time every day. Energy, on the other hand, is always fluctuating. Your ability to work on a task at any given moment is constantly changing based on an infinite number of variables, including stress, sleep, and so on.

If you want to be productive and better manage your time, start by getting to know your body's energy and track how it ebbs and flows throughout the day and week.

No one cares.

No one really cares what you do, what you say, or what you think.

Unless it has a profound impact on their lives most people don’t give any meaningful thought to the choices you’re struggling to make.

This a harsh, yet friendly, reminder to get unstuck and move past any paralysis that is based on what someone might be thinking about you because spoiler alert: They’re not.
