The District Attorney in Sacramento determined that two police officers who shot a black man a year ago will not be charged in his death.  The mayor apologizes.  The city riots.

In 1990, then Col Tony Zinni spoke about his fascination for the battle of Iwo Jima in a PME he did at The Basic School in Quantico, VA, I never forgot the things he said that night and subsequently became a bigger student of Iwo Jima after that PME. It was a privilege to have the former Commanding General of Central Command on ALL MARINE RADIO today and to talk about Iwo Jima, the personalities of the commanding generals, the unique fighting that took place there and the things that still fascinate him today over 74 years after the battle.

Yesterday while doing some research about Eugene B. Sledge, I found out that he wrote a second book about his experiences after the Battle of Okinawa. The book is entitled “China Marine: an infantryman’s life after World War II” and it is a wonderful read so far.  I also stumbled onto a talk that Sledge gave in 1994 about his experiences in combat and it gives us all a glimpse into his wit, his intelligence and his humanity.

We’ll talk about Eugene Sledge.

Since Marines like William Manchester and Eugene Sledge never “got over” their World War II experiences in the Pacific and they weren’t supposed to “talk about it” they did the next best thing — they wrote about it; Manchester wrote “Goodbye Darkness” and Sledge wrote “With the Old Breed.”  We’ll talk about why we aren’t encouraged to “talk about it” with Ken Rodgers who, along with his wife Betty, followed in the footsteps of Manchester and Sledge and produced the documentary “Brave!  Common Men, Uncommon Valor” as a means of dealing with his time at Khe Sanh during the Vietnam War.

Our Pacific Rim Security guy is Col Grant Newsham, USMC (ret) — he joined ALL MARINE RADIO today to discuss the latest developments relative to the Trump-Kim Summit #2 after no agreement was reached between the two countries. We’ll also get Grant’s thoughts on our discussion about a the evolving role of the Marine Corps in the Western Pacific.

One of the great worries about the US – North Korean summit is the United States taking ANY deal.  The President didn’t do that in Hanoi and we think that’s a good thing.
