I had the pleasure of working directly for MajGen Mattis in Ramadi, Iraq in 2004 as he commanded the 1st Marine Division.  I wouldn’t say he was the funniest General Officer there (BGen Kelly was), but he has a fine sense of humor and quick dry wit.  On June 15th, 2018 he repeatedly attempted to clear his throat during his commencement speech at the Naval War College.  Finally, a sympathetic member of the staff placed a bottle of water on the podium as he continued his speech.  The audio you’ll hear is HILARIOUS!  The short video clip is here

Quite unexpectedly a GUNTALK session breaks out as we were talking about the Battle of Gettysburg that occured in July of 1863.  The weapons of the Civil War were deadly and brutal and small unit tactics would not begin to adjust in 1864.
