I met Tiffani Czapinski as a new member at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce while we both were attending an online Zoom event there. When she introduced herself to the group I immediately knew I wanted to have a conversation with her.
Tiffani’s background is as a firefighter, but because of a back injury, she had to leave that profession. She then inspired herself to create Rescue Baby, her new emerging yet to be branded business.
Listen to this episode to find out how she’s pivoting, and not because of the pandemic.

“The trifecta™ of unstoppable, aligned is unstoppable.
It's the foundation, the basis of everything we do at Call Me Unstoppable™ - The Trifecta™ of Unstoppable. And when all three elements - Heartset, Mindset, and Skillset - are aligned, you are truly unstoppable!.”
~ Logan and Anna from Call Me Unstoppable
Who are these “unstoppable” sisters?
Logan was in private practice for about 10 years, and before that a former corporate gal in human resources who left in 2010 to open Logan Re-coaching. Then in 2018 they opened Call Me Unstoppable.
Because Anna comes from an entrepreneurial background, she’s the peer support specialist. She’s gone through everything a coach can go through. She’s the creative side. The “find the dots” kind of person.
Because Logan has more of a corporate background, she is the “connect the dots” kind of person.
Yup. Unstoppable!

Honoree Corder is a wildly prolific author who has sold over 4 million copies of her books on Amazon. What’s more, she offers an online “Publishing Ph.D.” course to aspiring authors that walks them through the entire process of conceiving, composing, marketing, and selling their books.
One of the things she tells her clients is that producing a podcast is an effective way to enhance their reach and boost sales of their books. This is where our amiable host, John Biethan, comes in. He’s just as much a proselyte for podcasting as Honoree is for self-publishing. Or, as Honoree puts it, “You’re the me of podcasting.” Got it? Good.
In the ensuing conversation, Honoree explains why self-publishing makes a lot of sense in today’s marketplace, where traditional publishers are stingy with resources and expenditures for all but blockbuster authors.
But there’s money to be made and authority to be gained by going the independent route. The book - and the podcast that grows out of it - can elevate an author’s profile and create beaucoup opportunities in their fields of expertise.
“Putting an investment in their book is an asset in their business,” she says.
Marketing considerations aside, Honoree says that many of her clients simply have the time now to write the book they’ve always wanted to write, now that we’re all a bunch of socially-distanced homebodies. “There's less to go and do, so there's more time to sit and write,” she says. “They’re kind of like, I'm ready to write that book and I want to publish it. And now I understand I have a line of sight.”

Originally a graphic designer, Tanya Goodall Smith noticed that many small businesses in her area (Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho) were shooting themselves in the foot by using amateur photography in their advertising and marketing materials.
“When 90 percent of the real estate on your ad is a photo and it's terrible, “ she says, “it can be difficult to make it look good.”
In that case, your brand doesn’t look good. “Branding is your reputation,” she says. “It's what other people think of you or your business or your product.”
So Tanya decided to put her visual communications skills to work creating professional photos and videos for a clientele that includes companies, real estate brokers, medical practitioners, and anyone who “really cares about their business and their clients and really just wants to take their brand up to that next level, beyond the DIY.”
Her photos appear on everything from billboards to print ads to websites. She also offers video services, to provide the added impact of spoken words, music, and motion, and social media marketing services that make use of her photos.
Having discovered a niche, Tanya is also teaching other photographers the ropes of corporate and personal brand photography, and solo entrepreneurship: “I created the course that I wish I would have had.”

Virtually every product or service travels through a supply chain that has a myriad of moving parts and plenty of expense and risk involved. I spoke with Jane Tierney, a consultant who helps companies save money, gain efficiencies, and mitigate risk. Our conversation touched on the key aspects of her universally applicable specialty. Here are some key takeaways that might be relevant to just about any business:
Transportation and logistics are an obvious aspect of physical supply chains, whether by air, rail, ship or through pipelines. Other operations that stand to benefit from tight supply chain management include purchasing, production, sales, and operations.
Think also of the internet as a logistical vehicle for moving information from place to place, and exchanging money for all the goods and services that move that way: music, apps, games …
… not to mention shopping. Tierney, an engineer by training who calls herself “a factory geek,” shares her insights and fascinations about the way Amazon warehouses work.

Program notes by Dave Herndon.
A Strategic Book Coach Meets a Recovering Magazine Editor at the Podcast Cafe
Honoree Corder is a Strategic Book Coach, a self-publishing expert, and the author of 53 books that have sold 4 million copies! She also calls herself a co-creator: “I work with professionals and entrepreneurs to help them write, publish, and monetize their books.” For the purposes of this conversation, refer to her title, You Must Write a Book: Boost Your Brand, Get ...
Dave Herndon is a recovering magazine editor and newspaper person, which makes him one of a legion of former print journalists who are trying to find a Plan B (C, D...) since the publishing industry has cratered and jobs have disappeared. He’s now a wordsmith for hire (editing and writing) and a podcasting apprentice. To learn where he’s coming from, check out Herndon-at-Large.com.
Dave asked the questions, Honoree did most of the talking, and John chimed in with insights about how podcasting fits into the communications and branding ecosystems.
Key talking points includeHonoree: Self-published books can’t be amateurish. You need to have them edited, designed, and proofed professionally. Her indie team is full of pros with backgrounds in traditional publishing. “You can actually hire really great people who are making a fair living because you're paying them directly.”
Honoree: Self-publishing can be more rewarding than traditional publishing. “I can create a book that is every bit as good and I get to do all of the other things that I want to do with the book. I get to have quality control. I get to have content control. I get to have timing control. I get to have creative control. I get to keep all the cash.”
Honoree: Carpe diem! “Write it, write it, write it. You have more time than you've ever had and may ever have. Again, we don't know when this is going to be over and you might have to go back to work. … You can't predict the future, but you can sit down and write.”
Honoree: Podcasts are great publicity. “As a podcast guest, I have done about 500 podcast interviews. And when someone signs up for my newsletter, one of my questions is how'd you find me? And it's always through someone recommending, or they heard me on a podcast.”
John agrees with her: “Your podcast is your advertisement. … It's just great, quote-unquote, advertising.”
John: Podcasts are still the land of opportunity. “Last count [there were] … about 900,000 podcasts …Only about 250 to 300,000 are actually active….So when you compare basically podcasting to any form of media, it's just wide open still. ...it's certainly less than $500 a year, depending on how much you really want to get into it.”
Honoree recommends these writers’ podcasts for tips and technique: Kelton Reid – The Writer Files and Six Figure Authors.

I wanted to have this conversation with Marcy and told her if she got the Samson Q2U, I’d schedule with her.
As a branding portrait photographer with extensive marketing and advertising experience, Marcy Browe uses this unique skill set to help her clients uncover their personal brand. Then, she brings that brand vision to life by creating stunning visual images that perfectly capture her client’s next-level version of themselves.
As a thriving portrait photographer, she’s able to immediately connect with her photo subjects to make them feel at ease and to allow them to enjoy their experience. This is her superpower, both behind the camera lens and when she’s presenting to a group. This is Marcy Browe.
Marcy talks about the influences in your life as a part of your brand. So inescapably and what usually creeps into this show, we talked about some of the music that has influenced each of us in our lives.

Marcy’s Mentions
Marcy mentions the company that did her website, April Edwards at AEDesignCo.com.and how now she’s getting more “qualified” leads than she ever has before.
John’s MentionsJim Terr, Ep. 7 Flashback Friday: BuDDy’s Old Fashioned Podcast, a Glamourous Guest (Kate VanDevender, film producer) on his podcast What Has My Attention.
John mentions an episode he did with Mary Cravets on this podcast, episode 7 Mary Cravets: Client Generation - Tied For First and the highly recommended networking service she provides, WatchUsThrive.com.
Honoree Corder, Strategic Book Coach, who without having her own podcast, has been a guest on over 500 episodes.
I wanted to have this conversation with Marcy and told her if she got the Samson Q2U, I’d schedule with her. Why? Because if you’re a professional, spending time on Zoom or podcasts, you need to come off as a professional.
For you podcast junkies and wannabes, this episode was recorded with Marcy using a $60 Samson Q2U and myself using my 15-year-old AKG C3000 condenser mic. The episode was recorded remotely using Squadcast, mixed and mastered with Adobe Audition, and finally, run through Auphonic.
And FinallyWhen asked what do you see yourself doing in the next 5-years?
Marcy says “More of the same. I’m in appreciation mode. It will appreciate as a monetary value appreciates” which I learned from Esther Hicks of Abraham-Hicks. When people ask me what I want, I say I want more of what I have. I don’t want something different, I say I want more of what I have.
