He is a natural born leader having served as Captain of both his Largo High School team, and Washington Adventist team before graduating and joining the coaching ranks. Derrick had an amazing career at Archbishop Carroll High School (D.C.) before going on to an equally great career at the University of Maryland. After Maryland, he was drafted by the Bulls, then spent a year in the CBA before having a great 15 year career in France.
