What happens when we open our lives to the promise of the Holy Spirit? Jesus offers us peace, purpose, and power through His resurrection and the Spirit. Today, we explore John 20:19–23, where Jesus breathes on His disciples and invites them into a new Spirit-led mission.

Peace through Christ’s Sacrifice (vs. 19–20):

Jesus brings Shalom: wholeness and flourishing.

Restoration of relationship between humanity and God.

The resurrection was the beginning of new creation.

Purpose through Christ’s Commission (vs. 21):

“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

Jesus entrusts His mission to His disciples, making them active participants in God’s plan.

The Gospel advances through self-sacrificial love and service.

Power through the Holy Spirit (vs. 22–23):

Jesus breathes the Spirit upon His disciples.

The Spirit empowers and equips them for the mission.

Fulfillment of promises throughout the Gospel of John: conviction, guidance, and transformation.

💬 Reflection:

Ask: What is the New Testament norm for life in the Spirit? Then ask, “Is this–what I’m living–it? Or, is there more for me to know, believe, and experience?”

Is the Spirit revealing your need to respond to Jesus’ invitation to receive His peace, purpose, and power? The same Spirit (Pneuma) that raised Jesus from the dead is offered to you today.

Jesus offers us an invitation to drink from the Fountain of Life and receive the Holy Spirit, who satisfies our souls and overflows in abundance.
