All the Miracles | Episode 7

In this episode, we look at the fallout of the kidnapping, highspeed chase, the devastating loss of K9 Rik, and the injury sustained by Sergeant Todd Raymond. We also explore the many small details that came together to make a miracle.  

Join our host, Emily, as she takes you through the details of what happened after the chase from the perspective of family, friends, and deputies. 

Interviews in the order they are heard: 

Megan recounts when she found out that Hescock had killed himself and that it was all over. 

Sergeant Todd Raymond sustained a bullet wound in the shootout with Hescock. He recounts being taken to the hospital and details his injuries.  

Sergeant Brian Lovell, a deputy at the time, explains what happened after leaving the scene on the night of the shooting and the next day's events. 

Nicole is Megan’s younger sister. She was seven at the time and recounts how she found out that Megan had been kidnapped.

Keira gives her perspective on how Megan did after she escaped. She went to Megan’s house and visited with her the night she returned home. 

Amber spent the night at Megan's home the night she escaped. She recounts how happy Megan was to be home, but how worried she was that the full impact of what happened just hadn’t hit Megan yet. 

Faydra Brown is the niece of Kieth Hescock and lived with him at the time of the kidnapping. She explains where her family was vacationing at the time and how he called to say goodbye before the shootout. 

Detective Sergeant Kevin Cox (retired) goes over what the sheriff’s office did to try and account for all of the places Hescock had been and any other potential crimes he may have committed. 

Misty picked Megan up after she escaped. She talks about the miracles that happened that day and the guidance she received to be in the right place at the right time. 

Brian Stositch recognizes God’s hand in Megan’s escape. 

Chris Reed talks about how miraculous this event was and how God must have something in store for Megan. 

Not interviewed but mentioned: 

Darrel - Megan’s dad. He told Megan that Hescock was dead, had killed a K9, and injured a deputy. 

Gina - Megan’s mom. She explained to the younger kids that Megan had been kidnapped. 

Pam - Sergeant Todd Raymond’s wife at the time of the shooting. 

Narcotics Detective Sam Hulse (now Sheriff Sam Hulse) was the deputy who drove Lovell back to Idaho Falls after the shooting. 

Sergeant Delano Dixen - He was the training deputy for firearms qualifications. 

Deputy Jim Schiffler - he was involved in the shooting with Kieth Hescock. His partner, K9 Rik was shot and killed. He is mentioned by Deputy Lovell when talking about going to the animal shelter the next morning to show support for Jim. 

K9 Rik - Two-year-old Belgian Malinois and Jim Shiffler’s partner. Killed in the line of duty. 

Deputy Kevin Casper - took time to talk to Lovell the day after the shooting. 

Faydra’s Mom - She also lived with Hescock, as well as Faydra’s grandma and brother. 

Elizabeth Smart - A 14-year-old girl kidnapped from her home in SLC on the same night as Megan. 

Amber Hoopes - Disappeared from her grandparents’ home on Sept. 14, 2001

Kieth Hescock - The man who took Megan and held her captive.
