February 16, 2010Robert F Berman, Ph.D., Susan Rivera, Ph.D., Tony Simon, Ph.D. - "Developing Neurobehavioral Biomarkers for Targeted Treatment in Fragile X from Human and Animal Studies"Integrated Neuroscience Seminar from January 29, 2010: The goal of this research seminar is to describe their integrated research efforts to study the neurodevelopmental disorder, Fragile X-associated tremor ataxia (FXTAS). A brief description of the neurological disorder and its pathophysiology will be presented to provide a background on what is known about FXTAS. This will be followed by an integrated presentation by these three investigators that will describe how translational biomedical research strategies and goals have been used facilitate the identification of biomarkers of disease and neurocognitive outcome measures for FXTAS over the developmental course of the disease. Specifically, the presentation will describe how studies in human FXTAS patients and basic science findings in transgenic mouse models of FXTAS have been integrated so that each informs the other to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery.
