The brainchild of Dr. Blythe Corbett of the M.I.N.D. Institute, the SENSE Theatre is a unique theatrical intervention research program designed to improve the social and emotional functioning of children with autism and related neurodevelopmental disorders. Recently coming off their first joint production with the Davis Musical Theatre Company of Disney's "The Jungle Book Kids," Blythe Corbett, Ph.D. sits down to discuss the program. Founded by Cindy and Eric Everson, parents of two children with autism, the P.A.R. (Providing Autism Research) 4 Kids Golf Tournament benefitting the M.I.N.D. Institute and several bay area autism service providers, celebrates it's 7th year as one of the premiere annual fundraising golf tournaments in northern California.

Integrated Neuroscience Seminar from January 29, 2010: The goal of this research seminar is to describe their integrated research efforts to study the neurodevelopmental disorder, Fragile X-associated tremor ataxia (FXTAS). A brief description of the neurological disorder and its pathophysiology will be presented to provide a background on what is known about FXTAS. This will be followed by an integrated presentation by these three investigators that will describe how translational biomedical research strategies and goals have been used facilitate the identification of biomarkers of disease and neurocognitive outcome measures for FXTAS over the developmental course of the disease. Specifically, the presentation will describe how studies in human FXTAS patients and basic science findings in transgenic mouse models of FXTAS have been integrated so that each informs the other to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery. The overall goal of such integration is to facilitate the development of new therapeutic interventions to improve patient outcome.

Minds Behind the M.I.N.D. from January 27, 2010: Robin Hansen, M.D., director of the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, discusses the goals of the CEDD and its efforts to both improve services for children and youth with autism spectrum disorders and to provide a forum for community input in areas of training, service, and community advocacy.
