Alternate Reality - Episode #406

Well when we last left you, we promised to only be gone 2 or 3 weeks. Its been more like 5. Wow, we really pooched that one, didn’t we? In all fairness there was no way for Jon to know just how long his recovery would be after surgery. So what seem like a easy time of sitting propped up in a recliner for a couple weeks turned into a vomit spewing catastrophe. Luckily, Jon pulled through and we can finally get back to talking about geek stuff.

And Talk they did. This week the boys talk about fewer book than usual and yet manage to run longer than usual. But I guess you can chock it up to podcasting withdrawal syndrome as they couldn’t seem to get enough when they got to talking. They talked about everything from comics to Transformers to convention appearances, and several topics in-between. So sit back, strap in, and get ready, cause Alternate Reality is back baby!!!!!

Alternate Reality - Episode #405

Movie reviews abound here on the Alternate Reality Podcast and we have another one for you tonight, albeit a short one. This week Jon and Charlie are looking at the new stand-alone Transformers movie “Bumblebee”. The boys wax nostalgic about seeing their favorite childhood toys come to life on the big screen in a way not yet shown before. They quickly review the plot of the film and discuss how this movie fits in with the existing transformers movies, if it even does.

Alternate Reality - Episode #402

It was a fifth-week so the books were light on the Alternate Reality Podcast, but none the less the conversation was full. The big event in the DC Universe right now is Heroes in Crisis and Jon is here to tell you all about who killed who in this epic “Who Done It” in the DC Universe. Not to be outdone Charlie gives us an earful about Marvel’s even “Spider-Geddon” (ominous music).

The boys round out the night with talk of everything from He-Man fighting Superman to Batman hunting a yeti. It was a full show in not a full week of books.

Alternate Reality - Episode #401

The boys wind down the Halloween season by talking about some scary books this week…… Well, kind of. I mean Jon’s talking about the Halloween specials Dynamite put out for both Red Sonja and Vampirella. Charlie’s keeping things supernatural with Books of Magic. And Jon brings it back around with his low-down on Spider-Geddon - a book featuring vampire-like bad guys called the inheritors. (That was kind of a stretch wasn’t it)

Truth be told that’s it for the spooky stuff, but we’ve got some good old superhero action with The Terrifics, and Return of Wolverine, and if I might add a touch of space-opera in Star Wars: Dr. Aphra. All of those books, while not horror books, do have anxious moments of intense action, scary even. So don’t count them out till you’ve heard the reviews.

And then there’s the scariest thing of all….. Jon and Charlie. (insert scream here)

Have a terrifyingly good time.

Alternate Reality - Episode #400

There’s a party going on right here, and it’s Jon and Charlie celebrating their 400th episode. We’ve got special music, we’ve got good friends, and there’s the sexy ladies over there dancing on the…. Well you can’t see that so there’s no point in getting into it.

Suffice it to say that there’s a lot of fun going on here but Jon and Charlie don’t let that get in their way. They’ve got comics to review, and by Jiminy nothing’s going to stop them. Jon continues to be challenged by the Immortal Hulk, while Charlie walks us through Spider-Geddon. Several DC comics then make the list, Supergirl, Hawkman, and Detective Comics respectively, and Charlie finishes talking about an Image book (of all things) about an STD that improves your looks??? Yep, you heard me.

Lastly Jon and Charlie get some love from a couple longtime listeners who sent in voicemails to help us celebrate the 400th episode. There’s too much fun for your tiny mind to process on this episode of Alternate Reality!!!

Alternate Reality - Episode #399

Last episode was a double length episode. Guess what?.... we got another hum-dinger of a show lined up tonight and it too is a double length episode. Why does Alternate Reality keep putting out double length episodes? Well perhaps it because we only put about half as many episodes as we’re supposed to, so we feel encumbered to give you more content each episode. ORRRR it could be that we have no time management skills. Either way you got double for you trouble again this week.

This week things take an “unexpected” turn when Charlie talks about The Unexpected #5. Jon relives his college glory days in his review of Batman/The Maxx #1. And the boys talk about several other great books; too numerous to name.

Then the worst happens. Jon and Charlie decide to spend just a few moments on The Venom Movie that just came out in theaters. Well you know that that means here on the Alternate Reality Podcast…………. DOUBLE LENGTH EPISODE!!!!!!!!

That’s right the boys go IN DEPTH to tell you everything that happens in the movie and what they thought about it right down to the mid and end credit sequences. By the time they get done you will feel like you saw the movie twice as you’ll relive almost every moment of the film though Jon and Charlie’s eyes. And if you haven’t seen it and decide to listen anyway, well then you won’t need to see it anymore as you will be able to create the action in the movie in your mind from the boy’s vivid “play-by-play” reenactments and descriptions. It really is breath-taking.

If, after all that, you are still a fan and want to listen to next episode you’re in for a treat. Next episode is #400. See you there.
