Alternate Reality

Despite torrential flooding, the Alternate Reality crew is still here and all without building an Ark. We managed to survive the flood waters this time but with a new hurricane coming in on the eastern seaboard, we’re liable to be up to our necks in it.

In the meantime, we’re already up to our necks in comics. We’ve got an assortment for you this week as Jon and Charlie talk about everything from James Bond in WWII, to the Star Wars Universe and all points in-between.

And if that wasn’t enough for you, the boys take some extra time to dive outside the comics book flood waters into other seas of geekery. We take a quick look at Spider-Man which just hit the PS4 and Iron Fist season 2 which just hit Netflix.

Uh oh, I should have said that. Whenever we say we’re gonna do anything quick, or just touch on a subject for a few mins, the episode turns out to be twice as long. Well, perhaps that’s for the best as the boys must take an extended brake after this so Jon can go to the Cleveland Clinic and be seen by the world’s best doctors. So this double length episode may have to last as much as three weeks before Alternate Reality will be back.

Sorry, but that’s just the way things go sometimes.

Enjoy!!!

Alternate Reality - Episode #397

All in all, it’s starting to feel a little like autumn. The days are getting a little shorter, it’s still warm outside but the evenings aren’t as bad. Labor Day will be on us next week, and not long after that the leaves will start to turn colors. We’re starting to look forward to harvest, pumpkins, trick-or-treat, and scary tales.

Scary things are the theme this week as we’re talking werewolves. But not just werewolves, the boys also talk about what makes Batman the biggest boogie-man in the dark. The Justice League are busy fighting things that go bump in the night in JLA Dark. Speaking of the dark, it doesn’t get much darker that the cold unfeeling heart of Darth Vader. Jon and Charlie talk about what makes him tick in last week’s issue.

Taken together it’s a spook-tacular warm up to what’s bound to be an excellent Halloween season.

Enjoy!!!

Alternate Reality - Episode #395

After a week off Jon and Charlie are back with another jam-packed episode. We’re covering two weeks’ worth of books tonight. The boys start off with a very thoughtful email from longtime friend of the show Matthew Kaiser. Then they go thought a bevy of books from Darth Vader to Justice League and everything in between.

Next, we spend some time talking about the latest Kickstarter project from Jimmy Palmiotti and they guys and girls over at Paperfilms. This new project is a mature graphic novel featuring nudity, sex, guns, violence, and death. What’s not to love? This in-your-face adventure called “Killing Time in America” was a fantastic read and Jon gives us a glimpse of what makes the book so special.

Lastly Jon and Charlie talk about San Diego Comic Con, all the movie trailers that came out, as well as DC’s new steaming service.

It’s a huge Elvis themed rocking good time on the week’s Alternate Reality,…. Enjoy!!!

Alternate Reality - Episode #394

Jon’s weekend got jacked. A bunch of stuff came up that kept him from doing his required reading. He knew based on tweets that Charlie was going to be talking about Flash #50 and the end of Flash War. So Jon, who was behind on Flash made a point to read the previous 4 Flash issues as well as #50 to have an intelligent conversation with Charlie about the book. He even got to read a couple other books. But that’s it. With close to 20 books in Jon’s pile he read 7, and 5 of them were from one title. *Sigh*

So this week Jon breaks out a couple new books for us. Superman #1 from Brian Michael Bendis and Ivan Reis. He also looks at the new Amazing Spider-Man #1 from Nick Spencer and Ryan Ottley. While Charlie on the other hand, working to fill the gap, talks about the afore mentioned Flash #50, X-Men: Grand Design #1, and Archie #32.

All that and we still come up an issue short but long on time,… how’s that work?!?

Oh well,…. Enjoy!!!

Also a few follow-up issues for you. Jon gives us the low down on Man of Steel #5 and Charlie brings us to the end of the Dan Slot run on Amazing Spider-Man with issue #801.

*So I don't know why but there was some static that was recorded during this last episode. We have no idea why or where it came from as I didn't discover it till we were posting the episode. Might be a short in the mic cables. Not sure. We’ll try to figure out why this is happening. Sorry about that.*

Alternate Reality - Episode #390

We’re back baby! Alternate Reality was gone last week due exclusively to the fact that Charlie couldn’t make it back from Heroes Con in time. But after a week hiatus to give Charlie a chance to sober up we got more comics to talk about this week.

This week, in order to earn a little small publisher/creator owned cred with Chris Partin, Charlie is talking about Skyward from Image Comics. Charlie regales us with the awesome Zero-G premis of this story. Then Jon and Charlie round out the rest of the episode talking about a slate of DC and Marvel books.

Lastly, Charlie fills us in on all the hijinks that occurred during his time in Charlotte, North Carolina at Heroes Con. Charlie even has a special gift for Jon.

Alternate Reality - Episode #389

Lots of comics to talk about this week. We look at a spooky ghost-like story in Immortal Hulk #1. Charlie tells us about Deathstroke being out for Batman’s blood. We finally get to the end of our weekly Justice League setup for the new series, but was it worth it?

Also, Charlie and Jon look at Papergirls from Brian K. Vaughan as Charlie tried to catch Jon up. Jon takes a tour on the wild side with Medieval Spawn and Witchblade. And we finish up with the new DC series The Unexpected. (Wow, that was unanticipated)
