Missy has joined me again for more musings and random wanderings for the tomes of ancient philosophy.
This time I'm going to be doing my best to explain the pillars of Stoicism so as you the listeners and missy my cohost can grasp the school of thought and way of life that is Stoicism.
This week i have a guest and as a place to start I thought since it was something i was recently researching we talked about action, knowledge and devotion,
There is also a fair amount of me expanding on how great philosophy is practically. I am in no way biased , I wanted to see how someone with little knowledge on this subject reacted to these thought and premise.
This episode is all about a movement and philosophical awakening that happened largely in Europe in the 1700-1800's. It was at its source started by philosophers but its influence spread out into many different aspects of society.
I hadn't heard about it until i did and now you too shall hear about it. Lend me you listening holes for a little while.
If you were unsure of which of the three you are have no fear i shall do an episode on each describing the type of philosopher each way encompasses.
For this episode to make the most sense listen to action devotion and knowledge first.
In this episode I'll be going in depth a little into how a philosopher of actions thinks and what sort of exercises they practice to improve at philosophy.
This episode is about the three different ways or types of people that study philosophy. Are you a person of action, a devotee or a keeper of knowledge? Listen and find out.
This episode is a look at the simple decision making school of thought of utilitarianism and how philosophy looks at decision making in general. There is also a tiny bit on consequentialism in their for flavour.
I think about philosophy and I share my thoughts on it how it relates to modern life. If old things can be used to improve our lives but in new ways. No prior reading necessary come in have a listen see what you think.
In this episode I'll be talking about the philosopher Kabir and about the three paths of Philosophy. exerts from Songs of Kabir are listed below:

Songs of Kabir, Introduction
There are in his universe no fences between the natural and
supernatural worlds; everything is part of the creative play
of God and therefore – even in its humblest details – capable
of revealing the Player’s mind.
(IV)
Do not go to the garden of flowers!
O Friend! go not there;
In your body is the garden of flowers.
Take your seat on the thousand petals of the lotus, and there
gaze on the Infinite Beauty.
(XXXVIII)
The lock of error shuts the gate, open it with the key of love :
Thus, by opening the door, thou shalt wake the Beloved.
Kabir says : ‘O brother! do not pass by such good fortune as
this.’
(XII)
Tell me, O Swan, your ancient tale.
From what land do you come, O Swan? to what shore will you fly?
Where would you take your rest, O Swan, and what do you seek?
Even this morning, O Swan, awake, arise, follow me!
There is a land where no doubt nor sorrow have rule : where
the terror of Death is no more.
There the woods of spring are a-bloom, and the fragrant
scent ‘He is I ‘ is borne on the wind :
There the bee of the heart is deeply immersed, and desires no
other joy.
Transcendentalism do you know anything about it? Neither did I. It seems history is littered with alternate ways off living like this. Have a listen and see what you think.
What is nihilism?
What is Solipsism?
Where do they lead?
I'm going to breifly explain these three things and talk around them in this episode.
