In this episode I'm going to explain as best I can what I mean when I mention the statement we are all one.
Its a philosophical statement that outlines how we can interact with each other in a better way, a way we can shift our own thinking about how we see others.
You wanna know anymore you'll have to check out the episode.
I am sharing practical things I've learned from philosophy that you don't have to study the old philo to understand or apply. Things like simplifying your decisions. how to not be such a snowflake. Things that aren't life changing individually but add up to a lot of good vibes in your life.
In this episode I interview my current Teacher from the Wessex school of Philosophy. His answers often surprised me and were remarkably different from his wife's answers to similar questions. except for one exception where the sited the same text in an answer.
I think this variety in answers demonstrates the diversity of philosophy even between two people that have lived together and studied alongside on another for many years.
Philosophy has some controversial things to say about the subject of good and evil. I try in my own way to talk about the stuff its taught me on this. Hopefully the way i have come at this conversation doesn't enrage people so they can't at least understand the point I'm trying to make regardless of them agreeing with it or not.
Come on in listen to my heretical words perhaps you might find you agree with them.
She was a popular writer in the 20th century and was also a philosopher with a lot of interesting things to say. In this episode I explore the thoughts of this most recent historically of the philosophers I've investigated on the podcast.
In a field where we are constantly looking back i want to try and see what we can do to move the subject of philosophy forward if such a thing is even possible.
This is an interview I've wanted to do for a while. In it I ask about religion, personal experiences, perfection. There's a whole slew of mad things we talk about. Pat has been practicing Practical Philosophy at the Wessex School of Philosophy for 40 years now so it was a great opportunity to get some insight from a long time practitioner.
The hypothetical situation to end all hypothetical situations!!!
In this one I'll go through the old story of Plato's cave and talk about some of the points it brings up and how they can be applied to modern life. The thoughts it evokes all that deep twisty turny jazz.
I wanted to go back find some proper ancient philosophers and see if their words and still helpful in the modern era. Also hearing more wisdom is always good i have their quotes for your viewing pleasure if you're reading this wei description.
Thales of Miletus
A multitude of words is no proof of a prudent mind.
Sun Tzu
Prohibit the taking of omens, and do away with superstitious doubts. Then, until death itself comes, no calamity need be feared.
Gautuma Buddha (yeah that Buddha)
Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.
Xenophon
self-confidence should always ride side by side with a strong sense of humility.
I've wanted to do an episode about emotions for a while and with the addition of the Bhavana aspect i finally feel i have enough to talk about to make a full length episode.
In this one i'll be talking about emotions and the role they do and can play in our lives with the addition of a bit of philosophical wizardry.
i will also get into Bhavana and how this is an awesome way to look at your emotions and how they work in your life.
The nine major Bhavana:
Anger
Wonder
Humour
Disgust
Harmony
Compassion
Love
Courage
Fear
Also the book mentioned in this episode and its author.
How emotions are made - Lisa Feldman Barrett
This ones all about speaking from different places. Why you blurt out shash that you in no way meant to say or how you intrinsically know what to say at the right moment sometimes. These things have been studied and understood, now I'm gonna share that knowledge.
I try to give a name and go through how these things can be bought under your control more.
