This episode’s guest is Mark Nelson. Mark is the Managing Director of Radiant Energy fund and previously worked under Michael Shellenberger at Environmental Progress. Mark is from Oklahoma City and ran cross country at my alma matter Oklahoma State University, before heading to Cambridge to get his Masters in Nuclear Energy.
Mark is an outspoken advocate of nuclear and a fantastic follow on Twitter. Over the last few weeks he has been featured on multiple mainstream news outlets talking about the situation at the nuclear power plant in Ukraine during the Russian invasion.
This episode we discuss the history of nuclear energy and the events that have shaped the industry. Mark discusses how the environmental movement has been behind a lot of the anti-nuclear propaganda that has set the industry back. Lastly, we debunk the fear, uncertainty and doubt around nuclear energy and why Mark thinks nuclear is the best path forward for an abundant energy future.
Hope you enjoy the show!

This episode’s guest is Craig Lawrence, Partner and co-founder of Energy Transition Ventures. Craig is an outspoken advocate of the green movement and the energy transition, and needless to say we don’t see eye-to-eye on many energy topics but that’s the exact reason I wanted to have him on the show.
We've often gone back and forth in the replies on Twitter and eventually we decided to sit down and have a conversation. For those of you who may have wanted to see a fiery debate… I hate to break it to you but I think we found quite a bit of middle ground in this episode. This is why nuanced thoughtful conversations are so important, energy is complicated, a lot gets lost in the soundbites.
This episode we cover a lot of topics on the energy transition. We talk about all the usual suspects - solar, wind, electric vehicles. Hopefully whichever side you fall on in the energy debate you can take something useful from our conversation.
Hope you enjoy the show!

We went live for this week's episode of Talk.Energy Insights with co-host David Heikkinen. We had a couple weeks off but this episode was one of my favorite rips we have done in a long time!
We talked about all the craziness in the world right now, including the war in Ukraine, energy markets, the headwinds for the energy transition, the future of energy security, and what it means to have courage in the face of adversity.
Hope you enjoy the show!

This episode’s guest is Chris Hare. The CEO of PRTI, where he is recycling used tires, breaking them down into their raw components and generating power to mine Bitcoin with it. As far as I’m concerned, this is the energy transition! Converting what would otherwise be a waste product, converting it into useful materials, harnessing the energy into a digital store of value that has no shelf life, and can be sent around the world at the speed of light. Pretty amazing stuff!
This episode we discuss the massive worldwide problem of trying to recycle old tires. In the US alone we dump 300 million tires per year! We talk about how PRTI has cracked the code on how to turn what most would consider trash, into a profitable and scalable business model. Lastly, we discuss how Bitcoin mining is a free-market solution that is driving sustainable energy technologies and completely changing the way we think about the future of energy.
Hope you enjoy the show!

This episode’s guest is Meredith Angwin the author of the book Shorting the Grid. I’m also excited to announce that I am giving away 5 signed copies of her book to people that like and share this episode (on Twitter or LinkedIn) as well as are subscribed to the Talk Energy Podcast YouTube channel. I will be putting the names in a hat and randomly selecting the winners a week from today (3/1/22).
This episode we discuss the basics of the US electrical grid. We talk about how government policies are distorting grid investment decisions and causing rampant inefficiencies. Lastly, we discuss how intermittent energy providers like wind and solar are increasingly introducing fragility to our infrastructure and putting us at risk for catastrophic failure to one of the most vital systems to humanity, the grid.

This episode’s guest is Griffin Haby, the co-founder of Mountain Lion oil & gas and Limpia Creek Technologies. We sat down in person at NAPE and got a very solid recoding in the books.
You may know Griffin for his movie star mustache or his western stylings, but he is also an impressive oil & gas entrepreneur who has recently made the switch over to the Bitcoin Mining space.
This episode we discuss Griffin’s background as an entrepreneur and the path he’s taken to land where he is today. We talk about the oil & gas industry, and the ups and downs we have lived through. We dive into some of the current challenges facing the industry and how the public perception has unfairly taken a beating over the years. Lastly, we talk Bitcoin, and how it has changed the way that we think about energy and it is going to change the future of our industry.
Hope you enjoy the show!
