I joined the 5am club and I am 3 days in. To be honest, I had been thinking about it for ages. I have ALWAYS been a night owl. So much so that I carried around that guilt that only night owns can relate to - that deep-seated guilt where you feel like you are lazy and that something must be wrong with you.
[ ] In his book Why We Sleep Matthew Walker is pretty clear in saying that our sleep habits, or chronotypes, are genetically hard wired. Saying about 30% of us are night owls, 30% are morning people. And the rest are somewhere in the middle.
I wanted to test this all out…
So far, I feel amazing. There is something psychological that comes with looking at the clock at 7am and realizing that you’ve already done more than most people will do in an entire day.
Plus there is a feeling of being productive - time is a sneaky thing. We’ve made it up, so it is easy to manipulate in our heads in that case.
It isn’t so much about the 5am wake up - it’s more about the type of person that gets up at 5am. Again, this isn’t fact at all, but it is something that I have felt so far.
I still believe you should follow what feels best for you and the #1 priority is getting enough sleep, without question. But trying something like this has been eye opening to say the least!
