You don't have to wait until you feel depressed or anxious to act. If you're health care provider said that you can reduce your chances of getting cancer by 25% by just doing this... Wouldn't you do it?
Your body may be giving you a clue that something is wrong. You might feel that pit in your stomach, or your appetite might increase or decrease. We all respond differently. Close your eyes for a moment, become aware of how your muscles feel or what emotions you're experiencing.
The percentage of adults with recent symptoms of anxiety or depression increased from 36.4 to 41.5 percent in the U.S. between August 2020 and February 2021, with the largest increases among adults 18 to 29,
according to the CDC.
God gives you an alternative to worry: Pray!
Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. [Philipians 4:6-7, The Message]
Don't try to suppress your emotions. Process them. You can do this with conversation, writing, praying, singing, exercising, etc. But don't let strong emotions like anger consume you. Why? The Apostle Paul says
. Don’t go to bed angry. Don’t give the Devil that kind of foothold in your life.
You can not control everything that will happen to you. But you can control how you respond. Take steps, no matter how small when life seems to take you down. This will help prevent feelings of helplessness. Shift your focus from the negative to the blessings in your life. They can live right alongside one another. You must choose to see the good!
You aren't meant to do this alone. Find friends who make you laugh. And find friends who will share your sorrow. Recognizing that you are not alone will help to prevent anxiety and depression.
Pray and play! Countless studies confirm the value of exercise. And when. you pray you connect with God Himself! You are never alone.
Jesus reminds you... “If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds [Matt 6: 25-26, The Message].
