In this 3rd Sunday after the Epiphany, we are once again invited to see the mystery that had been hidden in ages past revealed in the Incarnation of the Son. Today, we see in the water turned wine at the wedding in Cana, another powerful demonstration of just who this Jesus is. John 2:1-11

On January 20th, we remember two saints: St. Fabian, Bishop of Rome from 236 to 250, and St. Sebastian, a soldier serving in the Praetorian Guard of the Emperor Diocletian whose faithfulness to Christ brings upon him the wrath of Diocletian and his death. Both of these Martyrs know what it means to be a solider of Christ and the surpassing value of the Kingdom of Christ. Hebrews 11:33-40

On January 19th, We are called to remember and celebrate St. Hiliary of Poitiers (transferred from January 14), who, strengthened by Christ, stood fast for the Christian faith against the dreadful heresy of Arianism. Though he suffered rejection and exile for his stand, his life bears witness to the overcoming power of the true faith. 2 Timothy 4:1-8.

Today, the Church calls us to remember St. Prisca, who even in the days of her youth, found the great treasure of Christ and happily gave her whole self to attain him. Matthew 13:44-52

Today, January 17, the Church calls us to celebrate St. Anthony of Egypt (whose story we learn through St. Athanasius), who learned what Jesus meant when he said, "If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me." St. Anthony continues to teach us in the way of Christ, if we will but hear him. Matthew 19:18-26

In the Baptism of Jesus by John in the River Jordan, we are granted a vision of the union of Heaven and Earth, and we are invited to enter into that union. Mark 1:1-11

On January 15, the Western Church Celebrates St. Paul the First Hermit. Already devout in faith in his childhood, Paul is orphaned at the age of 15 and is subsequently betrayed by his brother-in-law during the Decian Persecution. He flees into the desert, where he learns to trust in the goodness of his heavenly Father and to walk by faith. Philippians 3:7-12

The 12 Day Feast of the Nativity has ended, but the Church calls us to continue in the joy of the Incarnation. On January 6, we celebrate The Epiphany, the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles and we consider the meaning in the Magi from the east coming to worship the newborn King and the manifestation of the love of God drawing the nations to Himself.
