All Anganwadi Centres in Sundargarh are now being developed on the BaLA model which is a nationally recognised concept for strengthening Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). The BaLA model Anganwadis will thus engage children in a playful atmosphere and help them learn with fun. This will aid in the children’s physical, mental and cognitive development
Sundargarh district administration has implemented Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting in all 17 blocks to check the depleted groundwater levels. The project is implemented on the roofs of various government offices, hostels, hospitals, schools & other buildings. As of March 2021, more than 350 projects have been completed. The District Mineral Foundation Sundargarh, (DMF) has provided financial assistance for the initiative.
The District Administration of Sundargarh took timely steps to contain the spread of COVID19 pandemic amid the 2nd wave in India. Checking migrant population, screening them at border checkpoints, mandatory quarantine, screening of people from other states, COVID Express Ambulance, setting up Containment Zones, advising individuals through District Helpline numbers and streamlining Testing, Treatment and Vaccination infrastructure are key among various other interventions.
Severe Acute Malnourishment (SAM) children in the tribal dominated Sundargarh being special attention by the District Administration of Sundargarh. Nutrition Rehabilitation Centres (NRC) in the district take care of nutrition, health checkup and treatment of such children to nourish them back to normal. The children are kept at NRC for 25 days or till they achieve non SAM status.
To provide quality education, enhance soft skills, foster scientific spirit and make better future citizens, the District Administration Sundargarh under the aegis of 5T Department, Govt. of Odisha has embarked on transformation of 383 Government, Aided & TRW High Schools in the district. 50 Schools have been taken up to transform in the first phases targeted to finish by 02 October, 2021 while the rest 333 schools will be completed by 2023-24.
The initiative to construct Building as Learning Aid (BaLA) Model Anganwadi Centres in the district by the Sundargarh district administration aims to make the centres more engaging, attractive and learning centric. Facilities like painted walls, number walls, solar system themed ceilings, board games on the floor inside and playground, sand pit, swings, see saw on the outside would make the children want to come to the AWC more often and help their cognitive and physical growth.
Bike ambulances Introduced by the District Administration, Sundarqarh, 'Swasthya Rakshyak' Bike Ambulance service brings in critically ill patients, injured children, accident victims, Pregnant Women, Geriatric patients and others to the hospital from their villages as well as drops them home free of cost. In areas where large vehicles or general ambulances are unable to reach, The Bike Ambulance has become a gift to people in those remote and geographically challenging areas.
'Spirulina' is a plant based food supplement which is high in protein, vitamin and micronutrients. Spirulina helps supplement important nutrients in children and adults. The District Administration, Sundargarh took a unique initiative of introducing Spirulina fortified chikkis (peanut bars) for children between 3-6 years and spirulina based sugar granules for children between 07 months - 3 years. After positive feedback from parents during the pilot programme in Lephripara blocks, the initiative is being implemented in 4 new blocks of Hemgir, Kutra, Rajgangpur, Tangarpali & 1 ULB where One thousand Anganwadi Centres are located. The project will benefit more than 40 thousand children in Sundargarh.
The District Administration, Sundargarh provides four free ultrasound tests to all pregnant women under the 'Matrujyoti' umbrella programme. The district administration provides the free ultrasound services through 7 government health facilities and over 40 private ultrasound clinics empaneled under the 'Matrujyoti'. The service was launched in the district from November 9, 2020 has benefitted over 9,500 pregnant women in the district till February 15, 2021.
The main objective of 'Matrujyoti' is to curb Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) & Mother Mortality Rate (MMR) by facilitating institutional delivery. ASHA & Anganwadi Workers play an important role in smooth functioning of the programme. They record, refer and help resolve complications and high risk cases by elevating them to the relevant higher medical facilities. The high risk cases are routinely followed up by the District Helpline, Sundargarh. The 'Matrujyoti' programme, funded by District Mineral Foundation, DMF Sundargarh will benefit over 28,000 pregnant women annually.
District Administration Sundargarh launched 'Sudakshya' to provide free competitive exam coaching to the youth of Sundargarh. Free coaching, hostel, books and uniform will be provided for all students in the 3 month long course. Subjects like Maths, Reasoning, Computer, General Awareness, Soft Skills, Communication and Physical Training will be provided to the students. Underprivileged educated youth and those from mining affected areas shall be given priority. Centres at Sundargarh & Rourkela are operational while Bonai centre will be opened soon.
