Amazing Greats: Crazy great Jesus stories.

How does an angry, alcoholic, drug addicted comic "flip the script" and become one of the most talented "clean" comedians in America?  Stand by......God's fingerprints are all over this story.

Jeff Allen is one of the most sought after comedians, performing on stage, television, at corporate events and churches  with his hilarious observational comedy.  In the tradition of Cosby, Carlin,  and Seinfeld,  Jeff finds the humor in our everyday lives and leaves audiences doubled up in laughter.  Marriage, children, careers...it's all the framework for his comedy routine.

His story begins with a life that would appear to be headed for a tragic tailspin and being a skeptic, finding God didn't seem remotely possible.  But God does the impossible,  and Jeff is proof of that.  It didn't  happen in an instant, in fact,  it took several years,  a few persistent angels and God's good grace for his reluctant breakthrough.

In this Amazing Greats episode we are treated to his humor, his incredible turn-around story and an overview of his recently released memoir called "Are We There Yet".

Take a listen and you'll learn to love this guy as he transparently shares his Jesus journey.

K-Love Radio is heard on nearly 1000 radio signals in 48 states, Samoa, Puerto Rico and Washington DC.  It is by far the largest outlet for Contemporary Christian music in the world.   It is truly a phenomenon!  It started with one radio station in California with one guy's "God inspired" idea.  (Founder, Bob Anthony was our guest on episode 43 in season 2)

In this episode we get some of the inside scoop on K-Love's exponential growth in the last few decades with our guest Alan Mason.  He was the COO and then president  of K-Love  starting in 2004 until his retirement in 2020.
You'll find out the keys that make K-Love such a powerful ministry,  how music is selected and programmed, who are the Christian music superstars and what's really at the heart of the Christian music industry.

Alan shares his own personal story and the impact that his wife Becky has had on his faith journey.   You'll hear how God directed him to make the  most improbable career decision that didn't even make sense to him.

I think you will find that this is an awesome inside look at the fastest growing radio format in the country, what makes it work and how it is so much different than any other music format.  Take a listen and you too will become a "radio insider"!!

Our Amazing Greats episode today focuses on  the science of fitness combined with the power of spirituality.  Our guest, PJ Glassey, was our  guest to make the youngest alter call at the age of 6,  which launched a life long journey in Christ.  From that, combined with his passion for fitness, was the starting place for the birth of the XGyms and the XGym app.  His unique approach to fitness was built on 3 characteristics:  It is designed for people with a busy life style, it's safe and focuses on strength and endurance, not on body building and bulk.

You'll hear the specifics on how his fitness methods work and the science behind it.  PJ explains his thoughts on the power of the mind and the importance of faith in developing a healthy and fit lifestyle.  He clearly outlines the need to understand your body type and your mental strengths and weaknesses before you launch your fitness journey, and how to be successful in making a healthy life change that can be sustained over time.

The Bible says that our bodies are our temple and a gift from God.  It is with gratitude for that gift that we are called to take care of it.
You'll hear PJ's awesome God moments, and challenges and how fitness can be obtained by all of us no matter what shape we are currently in.

I hope you'll find his story inspiring and a call to take our health seriously celebrating God's gifts without consuming our lives.

Shannon Bream is an accomplished journalist, attorney, hosted Fox News@Night for years and now is Host of Fox News Sunday.  Add to that, she's a podcast host and an author.  We were excited to notch out a little time with this very busy woman for this Amazing Greats episode.
We kick off our conversation by talking about her latest book  "The Love Stories of the Bible Speak"... an awesome glimpse of the Biblical lessons on romance, friendships and faith that she shares in the book.

We'll jump back and find out about her own Christian Journey and when her youthful foundation of faith developed into a true relationship with Him.
With her rich journalistic overview,  Shannon  offers her take on a  variety of current cultural  issues, including youth and Christianity  (the Jesus Revolution and Asbury University Revival) and the positive outlook and challenges facing Christians in todays world.
Bream was willing to spend some time sharing her personal health challenges as well and walks us through the ultimate miracle result.

Articulate, inspirational and definitely an AMAZING GREAT!

Barry McGuire rocked  the world of Top 40 music with a brash,  scathing depiction of a world in turmoil.  His number one hit song  "Eve of Destruction"  focused on the chaos surrounding the  Vietnam war , the draft,  Nuclear weapons,  civil rights,  and communism.  It was so controversial,  some radio stations and some countries banned the song from the airwaves.  It jumped to the the top of billboard magazine in 1965, bumping the Beatles "Help" out of the number one spot.

Although that song helped Barry McGuire capture a place in rock history, his life story is a slice out of the American music narrative.  McGuire was a key player in the very early days of folk and rock music.  He started with the New Christie Minstrels,  hung out with the best of the best musicians in LA, was a singer song writer and produced 26 albums, acted in movies, was part of the cast of the Broadway smash, 'HAIR' and was a devoted follower of Jesus from 1971 to today.

It's all here on this episode of Amazing Greats.  If your are looking for even more proof  of God's presence take a listen.

The smiling face and genuine personality of television host and newscaster Penny LeGate has graced Northwest homes for over 2 decades.  As co-host of  KING TV's Evening Magazine and morning anchor on KIRO news she was (is) a star.

In today's pod, you will come to know the Penny LeGate that goes beyond her TV persona.

Mike McCoy was  a star at Notre Dame then off to an 11 year NFL award winning career as defensive tackle with Green Bay.   In todays amazing story of his life and career you'll hear about his time in football, but maybe more powerful was his transition into prison ministry, and then to his youth mission,  sharing the Gospel with young people in Catholic schools throughout America:  Mike McCoy Ministries.

From a tough childhood with an alcoholic father, Mike found football,  several solid mentors and the goodness of God's grace that gave him the confidence to excel.  Beyond his Catholic upbringing, you'll hear the specifics of how  Mike learned to really know Jesus.  Including his personal experience with the "JESUS REVOLUTION'
Mike was right in the midst of it in the 70's.   In fact he spoke to a crowd of over 200,000 Jesus Freaks in Dallas at Expo 72.

There were some heart breaking challenges in Mike's story too.  He  lost his wife Kia, a professional ice skater,  to cancer 10 years ago.  Her journey was captured in a book his son published called "Angel on Ice: A mother's legacy of trusting God's sovereignty".

Enjoy the amazing story of football great, Mike McCoy!
