Jason Porterfield has dedicated his life to the cause of peace.  After giving up his comfortable suburban lifestyle at an early age to move into some of the darkest slums of the inner city he experienced first hand the most challenging living conditions in the poorest communities.   From Camden New Jersey, to Vancouver Canada's Downtown Eastside and then to Indonesia he lived and shared life  with the most desperate,  homeless, and drug addicted communities. 
As a part of his experience, you'll hear the powerful story of the gruesome serial killer Robert Pickton  and how that story  impacted Jason personally and the community where he lived.

I say this a lot.  But... I'll say it again.  This is one of my favorite conversations.   Meet  legendary major league baseball player, Doug Flynn.   He was team mates with Pete Rose, Johnny Bench,  Ken Griffey and the rest of the Great 8 from the Cincinnati Reds world series winning 1975 and 76 team .  He'll share the excitement of those years, the trauma of baseball trades, the power of a 40 year marriage and the challenges of cancer. 

Doug shares the heart breaking story of his sister's disappearance,  his life changing Christian journey with "Professional Athletes Outreach" and how he went from an upbringing in the Baptist church to an awesome relationship with Jesus.   As he says, you can only trick people into believing you're a Christian for so long.  Then it becomes real.

They don’t really teach parenting skills in school.   I guess we’re expected to just figure it out through trial and error.  That’s a pretty flawed way, when human lives are in our hands.  Unconditional love for our kids is a great start and a perfect foundation for good parenting, but it’s  not exactly a strategy.  My guest on this episode Jonathan Catherman, has made it his life’s mission to build a toolset for parents to use in raising well prepared kids at every age.
