Passage: 1 John 2:18:27 Jesus the anointed One, the Christ, anoints His own, to enable them to both believe His promises and receive His power. Those who would be "Christians" must confess with the Church Jesus as Christ in word and in deed. In so doing we shall be found not only for Him (instead of against Him), but with Him in eternal life. Let us embrace our anointing by the Holy Spirit to the glory of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

Passage John 2:15-17 God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, who commands us to love one another. In so doing, the love of God abides in us. But, if we love the world and the things in the world, the love of God is not in us. Wait ... doesn't God love the world? How do we love one another but not love the world? ... A worthy question. We will learn that its answer is best worked out in practice, with eyes fixed on Christ.

How should we respond to a world that is seemingly growing more and more hostile to the Church? The psalmist in Psalm 2 helps us as he leads us to see that there is no refuge from the King, there is only refuge in the King. And if we truly have experienced sweet refuge in Jesus Christ, then we will be able to best respond to those who are antagonistic toward us and our King. Thank you to Rev. In the midst of John's challenging warnings and exhortations to ensure we know that we know God and have eternal life, he is sensitive to those for whom his letter may spark unnecessary doubt or discouragement.  So he pauses to offer up gospel encouragement with the assurance of several foundational blessings that belong to them in Christ.  Why is such gospel encouragement still important to hear and what effect should it have in our fellowship with God and with one another?  Pastor Harvey shares this gospel encouragement from 1 John 2:12-14 with us.
