I would see all the cool aspirational startups like Airbnb, Dropbox, Instagram even and think, their business must have worked because they had a co-founder. Then I think back to entering a pitch competition for an accelerator, and it was pretty clear on the application that they would favor startups that had a pair of founders. I think the repetitive emphasis on co-founders had me associating success with having a partner in crime. But the question is...is a co-founder or partner a valid way to ramp up success?

I swear to you when you get focused on what you want to do with your life, how you spend your time, you may find yourself, upset or frustrated when your time is wasted on BS. This BS can be classified as dealing with talkers who keep talking about doing something, and involve you in it, but never get it into motion. Being involved in conversations that have no productive outcome, it's meaningless, and you really can care less. Or even, getting caught in office politics at the 9-to-5 and meaningless power struggles over projects and initiatives that you know don't translate to the scale and magnitude of the impact you could be working on for your own business vision.

I have browsed through the aisles of Target several times, walking past the electronics and wheeling my cart past the book section, will all the latest releases catching my eye. On a number of occasions, I've seen books by Jen Sincero, with their solid color simple book covers. I recall seeing, a yellow one, a blue one and a green one, and the bold headline of "You're a Badass..." plastered on the front. Her name,  her first name, in particular, stuck in my mind. Why? Not sure. Well maybe it the "badass" part, but anyhow I remembered. So when I began to see her name and that phrase pop up on reading lists of people I follow, I began to pay attention. And of her books, the green one really got my attention this time, it's called "YOu're a Badass at making money." We'll review this money mindset focused work.

So you call yourself an entrepreneur, but everyone looks at you like..." yeah...sure." It doesn't matter when just anybody says it, but when the people that you're trying to serve have this opinion of you, you might as well pack up. The likelihood that you will be able to serve anyone with your products and services is low. Why? Because they don't believe you! Credibility is the foundation of any good fruitful relationship. So being seen as someone who is either an expert or is know to find the right answer, is important. But how to build that credibility can sometimes be tricky, especially as we're starting out.

Every time I find myself looking for a silver bullet....a solution for my lack of ability to give my daughter her medicine at the right time, or my lack of ability to get my pictures perfectly Instagram worthy, I've been trying to remind myself of one thing: "Use what you've got." "Imagine the possibilities," That's the statement that flashes across my brain in the morning, while I'm driving home, heck sometimes at 1 o'clock in the morning! Which is rare. I value my rest. But that statement carries with it curiosity, a drive, and a desire to make a leap to see and taste everything that's in store on the other side.

But that statement alone, isn't enough. The statement plus the action we take to make it real, no matter what...that's what get's us there.

My guest on the show today, David Alan Arnold, a cameraman for Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch, knows what it's like to turn possibilities into realities. Literally, build a career and life for himself from scratch. And I'll tell you there's a little dumpster diving that helped him get where he is today.

When you know you want to be a full-time entrepreneur one day, depending on how close you feel to making the leap or how rooted and courageous you are that the work you do is meaningful, you may find yourself on one of two sides of the fear equation. Either A: "I don't want people to know I have a side hustle. They may think I'm not doing my job properly because of it." OR B: "I share my side hustle with any and everyone at work but I'm afraid that I may be looked over for opportunities because they don't think I'm serious about my career. Both of these, I know because I've seen both sides of them. Guaranteed, to move along in your exit strategy there will come a time that you'll have to abandon both A and B.
