Dealing with mental health is hard because if people can't physically see it, they don't get it. They won't understand how scared and tired one can feel at the same time. There's fear of failure but there's no urge to be productive. It's like wanting friends but is afraid to socialize. It's the overthinking and the abandonment issues. It's feeling everything at once and then feeling paralyzingly nothing simultaneously. And although one's mental breakdowns do not define them, we should still talk about it.
In this episode, ABS-CBN's North and Latin America Bureau Chief and mental health advocate, TJ Manotoc shares his own journey of battling depression and anxiety, and how he found his way to healing, acceptance, and modern parenting.
HERE ARE THE KEY TAKEAWAYS OF THIS EPISODE:
➤ [27:14] – The tricky part sometimes is when well-meaning friends and family try too much to be there and give advice. That's when it gets a little complicated.
➤ [41:38] – I realized that the problem usually for a lot of us who go through this is we try to find blame. We have all of these blames pointing outwards but what we fail to realize is that most of the things that it points to are factors that we have little - no control over.
➤ [42:12] – Therefore, you have to accept that things are just how they are, and how do you deal with it from now on.
➤ [50:34] – Let your children understand that they're not perfect. That's the first thing.
