How far is too far when it comes to Fame? How can women protect themselves from abuse? How can we protect teenage girls from sexual violations? In this segment I answer these questions and more. I take you through the trending story of an R & B Singer, R. Kelly who for years has been allegedly suspected of violating young girls and women. I wanted to do a part education to women and teenagers and part awareness of what the traits of abusers are and the traits of women and girls who fall victim are.

Surviving R Kelly is a six-part documentary that aired on Lifetime containing more than 50 very insightful and informational interviews. Kelly, 51, has repeatedly denied claims against him. It features testimony from women who accuse Kelly of mental, physical and sexual abuse, as well as interviews with associates and relatives of the singer.

I love what C JoyBell C. said “ You can be the most beautiful person in the world and everybody sees light and rainbows when they look at you, but if you yourself don’t know it, all of that doesn’t even matter. Every second that you spend on doubting your worth, every moment that you use to criticize yourself; is a second of your life wasted, is a moment of your life thrown away. It’s not like you have forever, so don’t waste any of your seconds, don’t throw even one of your moments away.” In order to embrace the new, we must release the old.

In this show we review the important part of preparation for a new year, reviewing the past year, releasing it and learning from it. Bullying is an epidemic. It is rampant, widespread, pervasive and the effects can be catastrophic. It occurs in our communities, in our schools – and sadly – even in our homes. Bullying statistics are staggering, scary and merit serious consideration and immediate action. 

In this show my guest, Rachel Weinstock, an elementary school teacher, artist and motivational speaker, speaks on how she was bullied from elementary school into adulthood. She has been teaching both internationally and with the Toronto District School Board for over 15 years. She is known as “Miss Rainbow Fairy” to thousands of kids because of her alternative approach to education. Rachel is on a mission speaking to educators, parents and caring adults about how to create emotionally safe and empowering spaces both in the classroom and beyond!

Bullying is an epidemic that requires a lot of attention especially in the school system. 

Consider the following:

Facts and Statistics

* 90% of students in grades 4-8 report have been harassed or bullied.

* 28% of students in grades 6-12 experience bullying.

* 20% of students in grates 9-12 experience bullying. (stopbullying.gov)

* In grades 6-12, 9% of students have experienced cyberbulling.

* Over 160,000 kids refuse to go to school each day for fear of being bullied. (Nation Education Association)

* 70.6% of students report having witnessed bullying in their school–and over 71% say bullying is a problem.

* Over 10% of students who drop out of school do so due to being bullied repeatedly.

* Each month 282,000 students are physically assaulted in some way in secondary schools throughout the United States–and the number is growing.

* Statistics suggest that revenge [due to bullying] is the number one motivator for school shootings in the U.S.

* 86% of students surveyed said, "other kids picking on them, making fun of them or bullying them" is the number one reason that teenagers turn to lethal violence at school.

* Nearly 75% of school shootings have been linked to harassment and bullying.

* 87% of students surveyed report that bullying is the primary motivator school shootings.

* 64% of students who are bullied do not report it. (Petrosina, Guckenburg, Devoe and Hanson 2010) National Center for Education Statistics and Bureau of Justice Statistics

But for some people, this time of year can evoke feelings of loneliness, stress and anxiety. The holiday blues are a real phenomenon, but they are likely to have different effects than you might think.

In this inspiring interview, titled “I am a child of God” I am excited to introduce my guest Jack Emmott. Jack Emmott, is in Conciliation Law, and his story is powerful. His medical experiences ran the gamete, completely paralyzed in an iron lung as a youngster, then on crunches attending regular school, assisted by his brothers.

He received his law degree from the University of Texas, and has never stopped in his fight to remove acrimony from divorce and bring peaceful resolutions that focus on saving children and relationships. Twenty years ago, he was stricken with Post-polio Syndrome and was again in an iron lung. Rehabilitation had to begin from scratch, but he did it. Today, Jack navigated the world from and electronic wheelchair, spreading love and care where ever he goes. He is married to his college sweetheart, Dorothy, with two children and four grandchildren. 

Deep faith in God, shared by his parents, supports Jack in everything he does. There were times when he doubted what God intended for him. But by placing his life in God's hands, Jack accomplished what others would deem impossible.

Every day, marriages and relationships in general are faced with a broad variety of challenges and trials. Couples are constantly exposed to news about natural and man-made disasters such as domestic violence, terrorist attacks, abuse, rape, workplace accidents, crashes, military conflicts and weather-related disasters which are indirectly impacting how couples, interact and live with each other. According to statistics, there are approximately 36 million reported crimes and crime victims each year in America. The emotional, physical and spiritual responses that follow a crisis are also often more than most people can manage alone. What is going on? 

Marriages in crises such as these need attention just like other disaster benefit from help from counselors, pastors, police officers, social workers, Red Cross workers and others to intervene in their lives. The same applies to a marriage crisis. Couples must be open to others' help.

While other parents take a nonchalant approach, other parents do the opposite. They ignore obvious warning signs, hoping it's a phase their kids will grow out of. I've talked with moms and dads who couldn't believe the alarms they missed — a pot-smoking son coming home glassy-eyed and wanting to devour every snack in the house, an alcoholic daughter returning on weekend nights and vomiting on the front lawn.

The worst nightmare for many parents is to see the defiance from a loving child they adore and love unconditionally. Teenage tendencies can become unbearable when your child becomes — a kid who makes his/her own decisions, through life, ignoring everything he/she's been taught, refusing to abide by any rules, causing chaos when he/she is not heard or as we say when they don’t get their own way.
