American Gods

Notice anything different about American Gods: Episode 5? We did.

"Lemon Scented You" was the first American Gods episode not written by showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green. Instead, viewers got a taste of David Graziano's take on Neil Gaiman's universe. And it was a winner.

What was the opening CGI sequence all about? What does Mr. World represent? Why did Laura Moon's heart start beating? And was the arrest scene necessary? All the answers are right here on the American Gods podcast.

After three weeks of sticking closely to the Neil Gaiman novel, Starz' American Gods breaks free with Episode 4: Git Gone.

Was Laura Moon's shocking backstory the birth of a new kind of female TV character or just cheap gags and poor acting?

This week's American Gods viewer mail gets hella deep with some of our most thoughtful letters yet. We cover the unifying meaning behind Episode 3: Head Full of Snow, unravel some confusing narrative, and chip away at blank-slate Shadow Moon's true identity.

American Gods podcast listener Drew shares a gay man's perspective on the Salim/Ifrit sex scene, and Roger then shares a straight man's perspective on a gay man's perspective on the Salim/Ifrit sex scene. Not to be outdone, Gene then offers a Middle Eastern's perspective on a white Rog's perspective on a gay man's perspective on the Salim/Ifrit sex scene.

And you thought we just talked about dick pics.

Another American Gods episode, another brace, and racy scene. Episode 3: Head Full of Snow brought us one of the most graphic gay scenes ever televised, but it was much more than that. We finally saw Ricky Whittle really shine as an actor. We saw, in the Anubis scene, how the gods interact with humans on an entirely different level. And we saw way more CGI than Gene could stomach.

If you're upset about American Gods, commiserate with us. If you're loving the show, come celebrate its many wins. If one thing is for sure, there is a lot to talk about. Video of 2x4 smashing through car window: Click Here

This week's American Gods fan mail focuses on the symbolism behind the gods, opinions on the Neil Gaiman book and the horrific nature of male anatomy. Long-time listener Jez Bell chimes in with some Easter eggs we all missed, and "Westworld Theorycast" host W. Axel Foley laments American Gods' repetitive formula of the blood, slow motion, high-speed film, blood and more blood.

American Gods Episode 2: "The Secret of Spoons" divided a growing audience and sparked debate over Orlando Jones' depiction of old god Anansi. And then there was Robbie's dick pic and the Space Boner.

This week's topics also include Gillian Anderson's portrayal of Media, Bilquis breaking the Fourth Wall, Shadow Moon's importance to the gods, and Czernobog's prolonged screen time.

Among all the thrill and shock value, Starz is building a solid, artistic show that isn't afraid to take chances and treat us to beautiful camera tricks and visual delights.

"American Gods" Episode 1 showered us in blood, dazzled us with Ian McShane and provided the first on-screen depiction of a man swallowed whole by a vagina (Big D thought it was sexy). What more do you want?

Someone, to help make sense of it all? We got you, Boo.

The action gripped us. The soundtrack, visual effects, and performances were better than most series' finales. Thus, we're willing to forgive a few inconsistencies and give "American Gods" the Shat on TV seal of approval.
