Sacred Readings are devotional readings of Holy Scripture designed for Christian meditation and reflection. The readings are from the 1611 version of the King James Bible.

This episode consists of Day 2 of the Daily office reading of the Psalms for both Morning and Evening Prayer, Psalms 9-11 and 12-14.

On this episode we're continuing our journey through the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion. I'm using the book The Faith of Anglicans by Bishop John Rodgers, published by Anglican House and used with their permission. You can purchase a copy at anglicanhousepublishers.org.

We'll look at Articles 11 through 14 that deal with justification, good works, works done before justification, and works of supererogation, which is simply the performance of more work than duty requires.

Roger's writes, "Anglicans are biblical Christians and credal Christians. When we are considering the truth of theological statements of belief, we must have a "canon," a standard or measuring rod of truth. For Anglicans, the Bible is the supreme standard of truth, which is summed up in the Creeds. This section sets forth the "rule of faith" that Anglicans use in this regard." (23)

Part Two covers Articles 6, 7, and 8: Of the sufficiency of the Holy Scriptures for salvation; of the Old Testament; and of the three creeds.
