While every Sunday is resurrection Sunday, Easter is a chosen time for us to remember what Christ did on the cross for us. Jesus cried out “It is finished” as His last words on the cross, and the question we wanted to answer today, was what was “Finished?”

4. How does what Jesus did speak to His love? His justice? Our sins?

5. Do you feel your sin is too great for The cross? Explain!

The focus of the flood story is too often on the deaths of the people and the judgment of God, and while God certainly is a righteous judge, He is also a loving, faithful God. Genesis 8 demonstrates a reverse of the curse, and a clear direction toward a hopeful future that teems with life, purpose and joy!

2. Was He justified doing so? Explain?

3. What does this say about God’s justice?

4. What does this say about God’s mercy and love?

God is destroying all of humanity, and all we can think of is that makes Him evil. What about the justice of God and the holiness of God? Have we been so consumed with His love, and what He did for us on the cross that we have become complacent and entitled. Today, we are exploring these questions and the topic of God’s Holiness.

God does save the righteous, but that righteousness is something He provided for us in Christ Jesus. We are "Made" righteous by Him, without which, we could not have any kind of relationship to God who is Holy!

What does it mean to be ‘Righteous’ in God’s eyes?

What was so righteous about Noah?

Was Noah perfect? Then how was he “Righteous?”

How is 2 Corinthians 5:21 a comfort?

How can we live a righteous life here on earth?

Here we are in a passage that is mostly a genealogy and in the midst of sin, violence and God judging His creation, but when we examine this genealogy it is clear that the author is reminding us of God’s Covenantal promise to Adam and the hope and rest He will bring in spite of the pain and consequences of our sin.

2. What does it mean to walk with God (See Genesis 5:22; 6:9)?

3. How does Hebrews 11:5+7 shed light on this set of verses?

4. How can we “Walk” with God?

5. How does 5:1-3 connect our story to Adam and why does that matter?

Cain builds his city in spite of God, and God graciously supplies a new offspring to replace Abel. God continues to show grace to humanity while supplying the new seed to carry out the plan of redemption.

We see two remarkable things in our passage this week. In the midst of our rebellion, and God's judgment, God reminds Adam and Eve of His promise that He would send a savior and it would come from a woman, and then He made garments to cover them, as an incredible act of His grace, and a symbol that our sins would one day be covered in Christ. What we see here, is that life is not only better than death, but it's better than non-life. In this fallen world, life can feel like a hell-hole, but God, in His grace is restoring life to be what He created to be; utterly glorious and joyful!

5. Why did God pay for our sins?

In the midst of God's perfect judgment on the first humans for their rebellion, His grace breaks through with an astonishing promise to crush evil, and provide a way for humanity to be redeemed.

1. Have you ever felt so bad about yourself that you hate when anyone mentions sin

2. In what way(s) does talking about and acknowledging our sin help us overcome it?

3. What does it take to root out destructive sin from our lives?

4. Have you ever felt that you aren’t really sinful, and therefore feel that any preaching against sin is irrelevant to you?

5. Do you struggle with the same sins over and over and feel defeated?

6. How does the Bible address this problem?

7. Do you realize that Jesus loves you and died for your sin? How does that affect your view of yourself and your sin?

Sermon Description:

Sin separates, and kills. It separates us from God, from others and even from ourselves. We lose our identity, made in the image of God, so we begin to construct what we feel others will like, so we can be accepted by those around us, making our identity a construct that is as broken as our souls, and never delivers what it promises.

In the first 2 chapters of Genesis we learn of God's creation and He called it "good". We begin Chapter 3 with the introduction of sin and ultimately the fall of man.

Questions: What is sin? What did the serpent tempt Eve with? How do we fall for the same temptation? What is God's plan for us?
