  • The Soil and The Seed: Where Are You Planting Your Energy for Growth?

What are you pouring into? Your time, your energy, your love—are you planting them in soil that nurtures your spirit, or are you stuck in barren ground, hoping for a harvest that will never come?

In this episode of And That’s the Tea Podcast, we explore one of life’s most profound truths: It’s not about the seed—it’s about the soil. You’ve been working, grinding, and showing up, but if the environment isn’t ready to receive you, your efforts will bear no fruit.

This is your invitation to reflect on where you’ve been planting, to release what no longer serves you, and to align with environments that nurture your growth. Today, we’re breaking this open: stop questioning your worth, and start questioning your soil.

This week, take time to reflect on the garden of your life. Where are you pouring your energy? Are you planting in places that nurture your growth or drain your spirit? Choose one thing—big or small—that isn’t growing and let it go. Release it with intention, and watch what happens when you plant yourself where you can thrive.

  • Reclaiming, Rebuilding, and Restoring Black Businesses: Q&A with Phil Andrews, President of LIAACC

2020 has presented a big list of challenges to all Americans, most especially African Americans. Since the small business is the lifeblood of any economy, we discuss how the black entrepreneur can tap into the amazing opportunities that have presented themselves during these turbulent times.

The Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce’s Phil Andrews believes fundamentally in the economic empowerment of entrepreneurs across the country, with minimal government interference. His leadership and the integrity of the Chamber was tested throughout the COVID-19 crisis. Phil proudly shared that they were able to help small companies ride the wave of the pandemic thanks to their partnerships with the Small Business Administration and other private organizations. He also praises their ability to embrace digital resources while continuing to stay high touch. When asked what continues to be a challenge for the Chamber, Phil speaks about the need for greater representation across different business sectors and net worth so as to provide an atmosphere of mentorship and learning between business owners of all sizes.

Speaking further on COVID-19, Phil looks at the crisis as containing the seed of opportunity for small business owners. Every business, he says, lives in a cycle: There will be ups and there will be downs in varying degrees. He believes that the people who make up America are resilient enough to be able to bounce back even from such an unprecedented global crisis; but the ones who end up thriving are those entrepreneurs who are proactive, adaptive, and innovative in the midst of seemingly endless uncertainty. After all, 2020 is just another chapter in your business’s story.

  • The Perfect Playground for Women of Color

Black women are human and deserve time to process the trauma and the complexities in our communities and daily lives. How can these women embrace, embody, and express their perfect, authentic self?

Holistic healing, according to De'Nicea Hilton, is an ongoing and continuously evolving journey of growth informed by one’s physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual influences. This type of healing doesn’t only involve cuts and bruises, but more so overcoming limiting beliefs and barriers that you’ve imposed on yourself, willingly or otherwise, throughout your life. If, for example, a black woman becomes fully aware that her skin color shouldn’t become a permanent obstacle to accomplishing her dreams, she is then free to grow personally and professionally, fulfilling her potential as a human being.

  • What 2020 Disasters Have Taught Us

Every single one of us has the power to create and pass on a legacy. But how does one go about building their net worth and ensuring that their assets are protected for future generations?

“Digital estate planning is all about leveraging online, self-serve technology to help families put their affairs in order, because we recognize that over 58% have not conducted any form of estate planning.” Cheri Williams-Franklin says that, usually, it’s assumed that going about it is too complicated or expensive. Life Snapshot’s purpose is to simplify digital estate planning to make this timely and relevant process accessible to everyone.

Jayne Ellegard takes us through what she calls the six pillars of financial empowerment. The first pillar covers your money values and beliefs, a fundamental (but often overlooked) phase that creates context for all the other pillars. The second pillar asks: “What’s your destination?” This step is concerned with establishing your individual, personal financial goals. Pillar three, which she calls “planes, trains, and automobiles”, defines your starting point: your net worth, which you can find by subtracting your liabilities from your assets. The fourth pillar is all about spending thoughtfully, with purpose. Pillar five goes into the world of investments. Finally, pillar six is called “giving the best gifts”, referring to insurance and estate planning.

Tune in to hear how you can discuss and put together an end-of-life care plan for your family and what sets Life Snapshot apart in helping you along this process, as well as dissecting your current financial situation in order to increase your net worth and create a legacy.

  • Business Spotlight: Q&A with Derrick Butler, CEO of Krisspi

What does it mean to be an effective business leader?

How do you take a vision, grow a business, and relentlessly drive it to completion?

Today’s guest is here to answer all this and more.

As a third-generation entrepreneur, solving problems and adding value to people’s lives runs in Derrick Butler’s blood.

Then, on one fateful weekend in Las Vegas, Derrick found himself in need of an on-demand service that would connect him to a barber.

After searching high and low - and receiving a less than fashionable haircut - Derrick decided to create Krisspi, an app that connects clients with vetted licensed barbers and hairstylists. It’s like an Uber for hairstylists!

Since then, Derrick has grown Krisspi to incredible heights and has so much value and wisdom to offer us today.

Tune in to hear Derrick reveal the main tools business owners need to thrive, how he continues to stay on top of trends in technology, and how business owners can pivot during these uncertain times.
