Money can’t save us. That’s the god our culture worships; silver and gold, power and wealth. It drives everything. “You were redeemed by the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”What does save us? The blood of the lamb. This is a reference to the temple sacrifice. The lamb that was sacrificed was to be the best of the flock, free from any defect or blemish.

The Apostle Paul wrote about the importance of scripture equipping us when he wrote these words to Timothy, he said, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

The Book of Proverbs is the Bible’s “Little Instruction Book” Many of the proverbs are attributed to Solomon who lived approximately three thousand years ago, and he compiled a collection of the wisdom he and others had accumulated over the years and presented this collection to his son, to help him "attain wisdom and discipline" and acquire "a disciplined and prudent life." (Proverbs 1:1-2) It contains advice for getting life together and keeping all areas of life together.

Today we begin a series on God’s Word. We do a series on this every year because it is so very important to the Life of the Church. Scripture is the book of the church.Our Vision Statement says: We will be an authentic community of faith that equips people with God’s Word to go and share the gospel. Scripture is how the church is equipped to fulfill our God given purpose on earth.

Striking up a conversation, Philip asks, “Do you understand what you are reading?”“No” says the Ethiopian, “How can I unless someone explains it to me.” He invites Philip to join him in the chariot, Philip explains the scripture, and shares Jesus with him. The Ethiopian comes to faith and is baptized at the next pool of water.
