None of us likes to be different - it isn't pleasant nor are people nice. But what happens if we're Christians? Do we fit in or do we listen to God, even if it means we're going to "stick out!"Peter shares some important reasons why we should be willing to be different!

God is the ultimate Good Good Father. But He also wants to help our human fathers be good good fathers as well.

Peter wrote this book to the Christians living in what is now modern Turkey. They were beginning to face opposition. It wasn't popular any longer to be a Christian. In fact people were questioning why anyone would want to be a Christian.

Peter begins by reminding the Christians of all the good things they have because of their faith.

When we face opposition - when it is no longer popular to be a Christian, there are 2 things we need to remember: WHO we are (last week's sermon) and WHAT WE HAVE!Peter reminds us of the inheritance and new life we have - which no one can take away from us.

As Christians, we need to decide who we are. Are we focused on this world, the country we live in, everything that is happening here, now? Or are we God's children? Are we focused on His Kingdom that we are part of?

This makes a big difference in how we look at what's going on around us.

When it is no longer popular to be a Christian, what do we do? Peter says that before we DO anything, we need to remember WHO we are!THAT identity will guide us in however we should respond.

As Christians we too have Memorials. They were given to us by God for a specific purpose. Each memorial has a lesson to teach us. Today we will look at each memorial, and the lesson God wants us to learn.

Peter may have been as apostle and a lot of people call him Saint Peter. Yet the reality is that Peter was a guy just like us. He wasn't perfect. He had his struggles and his weaknesses. And that's why he's worth listening to!

We may call him "Saint Peter" but he was far from perfect. Peter was a flawed human like all of us. Yet Jesus called him a "rock" and he did great things for God. Today we look at his life and see what he has to teach us.Peter wrote a letter we will study this summer: 1 Peter. The letter was written to Christians in an age when it wasn't popular to be a Christian. Peter wrote to give them perspective and hope.
