Jonah was depressed by his own success as a preacher! God forgave Nineveh. He let them off.There's a lesson for us all in this final chapter. God doesn't do what we expect, a lot of the time. We can either get angry and frustrated, or we can learn to trust God and watch what He does. Then we are amazed and thrilled instead of defeated.

Jonah was given an impossible task - evangelize the pagan city of Nineveh. It WAS impossible for Jonah. But not for God!Nothing is impossible for God. We need to learn to rely less on ourselves and more on Him.This sermon looks at what this would look like.

It's easy to agree to serve and help God, when He allows us to remain in our comfort zones. What happens when He asks us to go way outside our comfort zones? Will we go?Jonah finally did - fearful and miserable - but he went.What about us? Will we leave our comfort zones - our safe Christian circles - and journey out into the community around us? Will we invest in relationships with those far from God? Jesus did! We must follow His example. What the church is currently doing for evangelism is not working. We have to leave our buildings, our comfort, and go to them!

Jonah learned that you can't run away from God. We need to learn that same lesson because God pursues us just like He did Jonah. It is not because God is mean, but because He needs our help, and He loves us as much as He loves Nineveh.The question is: will we run or will we listen?

Worship is a combination of powerful spiritual activities that we do together. When we understand what we're doing and why, worship takes on a whole new meaning.

Jonah didn't want to go to Nineveh because they had chosen to follow other gods and live in ways that were wrong. So he ran away from God. Most Christians are like Jonah. We want to avoid a broken world - and people with lifestyles we can't support. But like Jonah, God asks us to go to His lost children!
