  • Anechoic Chamber Episode 3: Weasel Walter
Welcome to Episode 3 of Anechoic Chamber - free-form, "erased interviewer" dialogue on the fertile margins of art and culture.
This episode's guest is Weasel Walter, restless multi-instrumentalist associated with the "brutal prog" and "punk jazz" musical idioms, whose character he has played a key role in shaping while active in three distinct geographic 'scenes.' Over the course of 200+ commercially available recordings, and collaborations with hundreds of sympathetic musicians, Walter has built an entire cottage industry upon intensity, exertion, and the wholesale rejection of tepid attitudes. Key moments have included the formation of the Flying Luttenbachers combo and their integration into the '90s Chicago scene based around 'Skin Graft' records, collaborations with numerous luminaries of avant-jazz (e.g. Roscoe Mitchell, Marshall Allen, Henry Kaiser, Evan Parker), and international touring with Lydia Lunch Retrovirus.
    music used in this episode:
Walter / Drumm / Lonberg-Holm: "I Just Whaled on a Music Critic with a Baseball Bat"
Weasel Walter "Half Death" and "Viral Humanity"

  • Anechoic Chamber episode 2: Carl Abrahamsson
Welcome to episode 2 of Anechoic Chamber: free-form audio devoted to new and under-explored ideas on the margins of arts and culture.
Our guest for this episode is Carl Abrahamsson. Abrahamsson’s multi-faceted approach to the issues of art, psychoanalysis and the occult has seen him working alternately as a photographer, filmmaker, musician, writer and editor. His long-standing interest in the esoteric origins of culture has resulted in artifacts such as the Fenris Wolf journal of cultural anthropology, and a series of documentary film portraits on subjects ranging from Kenneth Anger to Genesis P Orridge, collectively titled as “An Art Apart.”
By using descriptive terms such as “highbrow lowlife,” Abrahamsson hints at an approach to life that neglects neither those elements which make for the most enduring popular culture, nor the intellectual rigor which defines more hermetic forms of research. The following discussion, while not exhaustive in scope, hopefully hints at some of the essentials of an eclectic yet focused worldview.

  • Anechoic Chamber episode 1: Carl Michael von Hausswolff
Welcome to the premiere episode of the Anechoic Chamber podcast: free-form audio devoted to both new and under-explored ideas on the margins of arts and culture.
Our guest for this first episode is Carl Michael von Hausswolff, Swedish artist / composer / curator / filmmaker. CMVH has spent over four decades exploring the threshold states of experience, utilizing everything from geography to intense, concentrated physical sound as a means of interrogating both self and audience. Some of his signature actions have included the co-founding of the nations of Elgaland / Vargaland, the "Red" series of environmental photography, the curation of the "Against All Evens" festival, and experimentation with electronic voice phenomena [EVP]. Hausswolff's resistance to easy categorization, and affirmation of the easily eroded boundary line between art and life, have made him an ideal subject to kick off this series.
Topics under discussion: the "Zurich-Zurich" and "Alger-Lagos" films of Phauss / external and internal travel / ancestors / early gallery activities in Gothenburg / criticism of art school / Fylkingen and EMS - Swedish cultural institutions / the 'sound art' boom / arts community in Thailand / EVP + "it's more interesting to say 'yes'" / music from ashes / past and future of the avant-garde
All audio selections provided by Carl Michael von Hausswolff and Phauss
