In this sermon, To the Angel of the Church in Laodicea, from Revelation 3:14–22, we examine Christ's final letter to the seven churches in Asia and His sobering assessment of a church that had become lukewarm, spiritually complacent, and self-sufficient. Although the Laodiceans believed they were rich and needed nothing, Christ exposed their true spiritual poverty, blindness, and nakedness. As the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, and the sovereign Creator, Jesus sees the true condition of His church and speaks with perfect truth and authority. Yet, in His great love and grace, He calls His people to repent, renew their zeal, and seek from Him the true spiritual riches, righteousness, and spiritual sight they desperately need. This passage reminds us that Christ disciplines those He loves, graciously inviting them to renewed fellowship with Him and promising eternal victory to those who overcome by His grace.
