Our most essential workers are often the most vulnerable in a red-hot property market.

The most recent Rental Affordability Snapshot - from Anglicare Australia - found workers like teachers, nurses, cleaners and those in aged care could only afford between 1 and 3 per cent of rental properties.

Now, Anglicare is doing something about it, buying a block of apartments in Sydney and renting them out at affordable rates.

The first residents moved in this week - just in time for Christmas.
