Anibros Podcast

In a move that surprises no one at this point, the Anibros finally let the kettle boil over and dedicate an entire episode to their favorite works produced by studio Gainax! Joining the dynamic duo is Laven’s cousin Kenny, who we last heard from over three years ago on episode 50 of this fine podcast. Time sure flies, doesn’t it?

Too bad this isn’t an animated gif or we could have had some of that signature Gainax bounce.

Whether you’re looking for recommendations for new anime to watch or you’ve already been crowned the Otaking, please enjoy our discussion of our favorite Gainax anime.

Kicking it old school with another late 1980s OVA, we find out what happens when you supply officers of the law with combat vehicles. This podcast unpacks the important questions posed by Dominion Tank Police: can too many explosions be a bad thing? The beginning of Fate/stay night is also touched on before we get sidetracked into looking at some top 10 anime lists trying to prove whether or not popular opinion can be trusted.

There’s no I in TANK!

Our producer said we’re spending too much time reading your comments on the air but we’re not afraid of him. If you want to leave your thoughts on this episode we’ll make sure they’re kept safe in the mailbag until next time.

It’s been a hot minute but now we’re back to discuss Sakura-Con 2017! The Good Patrick joined us to celebrate Sakura-Con’s 20th year anniversary and what a wild ride it was. Despite the lack of an Anime Jeopardy panel, there was more than enough fun to be had at the oldest and largest anime convention in the northwest.

Good Patrick surveys a brave new world.

Please be sure to listen until the end to hear some incredible advertisements for the convention brought to you by Doctor Pat, who holds a PhD in anime marketing!

Face front, true believers! In this episode the Anibros work through some family matters in the smallest corner of anitwitter before bringing you an important news bulletin and lending a sympathetic ear in the first edition of our newly syndicated advice column. All this plus an update on what anime we’ve ingested since the last time we rapped, culminating in our review of Your Name.

Relationship status: it’s complicated.

In the interest of fairness, I will disclose here that this episode may contain plot details for Your Name that could be considered spoilers. But even if you haven’t seen the film, please listen to this episode because you still get almost an hour of content before we get into spoilers. And if you HAVE seen the film, you have no excuse: listening is mandatory.
