  • Animal Party Episode 148 Cougars, Rats, Cats & Dogs
Deborah begins the show with cougar facts and suggestions for cat safety and exercise. Did you know that rats are musical? Why would a man walking with a woman and two off leash dogs punch, hit and kick a woman walking with dogs in the forest? That’s what RCMP want to know as they ask for the public to report on what they saw Jan 29 on the north shore forest trails by Vancouver. Deborah gives ‘come’ when called dog advice for the listener whose dog will come when the husband calls but not the wife plus litter box logic that works for multi-cat homes.

Deb describes two funny pet moments you’ve seen on tv shows like ‘Friends’ and in movies and how those naughty dogs made you laugh think …now think of how it is for those owners after the acting is done ; Deborah talks about a dog trained to climb up on a sports car and pee on the sunroof and how that went over when the dog went home and continued to perform the new trick! Deborah is always looking for new guests and new advertisers on the show so if you have someone in mind please let us know.

  • Animal Party Episode 147 Search And Rescue Earthquake and Avalanche Dogs
Today in the wake of the earthquakes which hit Turkey and Syria, Deborah is delving into the world of search and rescue dogs. What makes a dog a candidate for this work? How much training do they need? When is a dog worth 20 men? When a person is trapped by an earthquake or avalanche- that’s when! Would your dog rescue you if you needed rescuing?

Deborah describes an experiment which tested pet dogs and their ability to rescue their owners and the results are astonishing. Sadly, and ironically, in the past six months if you searched ‘rescue’, ‘dog’ and ‘Turkey’ what you’d have seen were hundreds of purebred Golden Retriever pet dogs dumped into the streets of Turkey needing rescue and rehoming to families overseas, often in the U.S.; And now the people of Turkey need rescuing by dogs which are being sent from all over the world to help. Other topics include geese in space, the breed differences between Golden Retrievers and Poodles and how cats understand and fight for time share places. What does the oldest dog in the world eat? It might surprise you.
