The guys are back from their week off and are really diving into the new release slate! House of Gucci premiered over the weekend to lots of praise and lots of hatred- tune in to see which host liked it more. Over the week there were also fist fights about Spider-Man, more Dune news somehow, and a new Paul Thomas Anderson film receiving limited screenings. Thankfully, we were able to sneak Jacob into an early showing of Licorice Pizza so he could give us his thoughts. Out of the break Bo and Jacob talk about the 2007 film There Will Be Blood, where it sits in PTA's filmography, and the legendary stature of Daniel Day Lewis's performance.
In another action packed week, Bo and Jacob kick off the conversation with some discussion of Netflix's new record breaking film, Red Notice. They follow up the opening segment by spending entirely to long on Spider-Man: No Way Home and any theories surrounding the next flagship Marvel movie. They close out the first half with some discussion of the new product from Paul Thomas Anderson, Licorice Pizza. The two come back from the break to discuss PTA's 2002 film, Punch-Drunk Love.
To start off the pod Jacob and Bo discuss the movies they've been seeing recently like Last Night in Soho, French Dispatch, and The Harder They Fall. They delve into the rise of Neon Films, and try to figure out if they will be able to compete with A24. They wrap up the first half with a discussion of Eternals, and the Fast and Furious Franchise's beef within the family. They then turn the attention onto No Country For Old Men (50:00). The movie selection of the week for the Coen Bros. and an iconic Western, the duo talk about just how much this movie means to them. This episode gets FUN!
The dynamic duo is back and joined by special guest Nick Luberto, the star of brand new short film, directed by Jacob Rodier, "The Color of You" (out now on YouTube). The trio talks Dune, Alec Baldwin, Eternals, and new releases! We also find out why Jacob has legitemate, personal, beef with rap legend Jay-Z. Bo interviews the pair and we get a look behind the curtain into how this award winning short film came to be. Following the break, buckle in for lots of bad Minnesotan accents. We are talking Fargo! The Coen Brothers breakout movie is the first on the slate for our director's battle month. Get ready for murder and laughs!
We talk about Dune. Like alllll of Dune. If you haven't seen it and dont want it spoiled go to the halfway point of the pod. We spoil alllll of Dune. But then we talk about Midsommar and it is so fun. Jacob gets attacked by a lizard (for real), it's worth the listen.
Jacob and Bo talk with special guest Paul Scheer on his favorite movies of the year and what he's looking forward to. Is Paw Patrol going to be the #1 film of 2021? Will Dune top it? We then do a deep dive into John Carpenter's THE THING. Don't miss this ep, it's a good one!
Jacob and Bo kick off the show bidding farewell to Daniel Craig's run as Bond and discuss the past, present, and future of the movies. They talk about news in the horror movie realm with Scream, new Marvel castings, and recommend some movies they saw in the last week. In the back half of the show they break down John Carpenter's Halloween and the way it revolutionized movies forever. Oh- and get ready for Paul Scheer next week!
The Halloween episodes are off to a strong start! About as strong as our October movie slate. Bo and Jacob go over the new releases, talk about the fantastic Andrew Garfield, and look ahead to some new movies. They also give off a healthy dose of Bond talk to celebrate No Time to Die! Following an ad break, they get into the movie of the week, Hereditary. Ari Aster's film is a family drama with a pretty intense twist and the guys break it down! They also announce the movie for next week. There will be no poll, it was chosen by the celebrity guest! Stay tuned until the end for the official announcement of the star of the next episode!
To start off the pod Jacob and Bo go into Dear Evan Hanson, a new Broadway to Hollywood adaption that should not exist. Following a heated discussion on the state of musicals in motion pictures, the duo breaks down the entire October release slate! An exciting crop of movies is coming out and it is only the beginning. After the ad break the two discuss 2016's Best Picture Nominee: Room. Room is an intense film centered around topics like kidnapping, self-harm, and sexual assault so if you prefer not to hear about it, we totally understand. The film however is a sad but beautiful story about the perseverance and strength that the human spirit can muster. To round out the pod, Bo fills everyone in on the October schedule (there will be fun new changes to the form), and gives off a hint about who the FIRST celebrity guest will be.
Jacob and Bo start off the show by breaking down the "Dune" international opening from this weekend! After touching on some very bright news they breakdown their many thoughts and feelings on Clint Eastwood and his legacy (and the possibility he's making another movie when he's 92?) Following the break the duo dives into our movie of the week--"Lady Bird." A coming of age story unlike any other, the two have a conversation about growing up in small towns, family relationships, and how edgy Timothée Chalamet is in this movie. With a brand new audio setup and some great breakdowns, this might be the best episode yet!
