"With the 4th of July upon us, Anna Marie talks fire safety, including fireworks, with a couple of local experts. Guests are Curt Edleman, Fire Inspector with the Franklin Fire Department, and Kim Lawson, Assistant Chief of Medical Services with Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue and former Deputy Chief of the Nashville Fire Department.

This week's Focus looks at the great outdoors in Tennessee. Jim Osborne and Charles Faulk from Bass Pro Shops talk about teaching children to fish and the store's efforts to get fishing rods into the hands of children. Also, Dough Markham, communications manager for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency discusses the variety of creatures found throughout Middle Tennessee.

Anna first talks with Renee Robb, board member of Safe Haven Family Shelter, a shelter-to-housing program that accepts the entire family and focuses on financial empowerment. Next, she chats with Hal Cato, CEO of Thistle Farms which helps women coming out of trafficking, addiction and prostitution with a two-year residential program.

"This week's Focus talks with Jacelyn Grimsley and her daughter, Sophia, a student at Battleground Academy. The youngster's efforts with "Jump Rope For Heart" has raised funds for the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. Also, Anna Marie talks with heart disease survivor Julie Dirks.

This week's Focus looks at scams online and how to avoid them. Tennessee Highway Patrol Sergeant, Larry Pollard with the Identity Crimes Unit talks with Anna Marie about how to avoid your identity from being stolen. Tabatha Hawk from Nashville Computer Guru tells you about spyware that can infect your computer and take your money, and Kathleen Callagan from the Better Business Bureau tells you what other scammers are doing to try and rob you.

Interview 01: Tallu Schuyler Quinn talks with Anna Marie about the less fortunate in Nashville and what their company is doing about it. Tallu is the Executive Director of The 

Nashville Food Project

, and talks about how the company’s mission statement is to help Nashvillians who are living in- or below- poverty level.

Tallu also explains how this non-profit and their partners make The Nashville Food Project work throughout the city to help feed our community.

Interview 02: We talk about taking food to the streets in a completely DIFFERENT way: Food Trucks! Darwin Guenther -owner of 

Roadhouse Grille Food Truck

- tells how he built a food truck business, literally from scratch, to become one of Nashville’s most loved and successful food trucks.

(This weeks 'Focus' originally aired August 2016) Betty Mason returns to Focus to continue telling her daughter's story of battling drug addiction. She tells Anna Marie about Katy's third stint in rehab in Texas that helped Katy stay sober for a while before she once again became addicted to drugs.

Katy ended up passing away on May 14th 2016 after a drug overdose. She was just 19.

Betty finishes her story by sharing a powerful and emotional letter she wrote to Katy after her passing that states how determined she is to share Katy's story with as many people as possible in the hopes that she can help raise awareness on the drug epidemic that our country faces.

(This Focus Episode originally aired last August, but since Sunday is Mother's Day, and it's also the anniversary of Katy's transition into heaven, we're re-sharing this mom's conversation. This is Part 1. -- Anna Marie)

Betty Mason is a Green Hills Mother on a Mission.

Her daughter, Katy, died on May 14th, 2016, and Betty is committed to sharing the story of her beautiful, talented, outgoing, loving daughter, who lost her love of life, and eventually lost her life, to the disease called "Addiction."

Betty tells Focus host Anna Marie how she and her husband Bruce went from being naive parents, to being a little bit in denial when they saw the signs, to finally being the parents of a young woman in full-blown addiction, and how the family coped, fought, and lost the battle for Katy. Betty wants to erase the stigma, share the red-flags, and start the conversation, right now.
