Another Dolphins Podcast

The Miami Dolphins defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars, but coming out of the game, there are still more questions than answers. More specifically, around who the starting quarterback will be. While the “dress rehearsal” will help push the finishing touches on the roster, it also created many tough decisions for the Dolphins front office and coaching staff.

While Ryan Fitzpatrick struggled, Josh Rosen shined. While the running back groups stumbled, Patrick Laird broke through. And Sam Eguavoen is making a case not only to make the roster, but to also be in the starting lineup. We address all of this and more on this week's edition of Phinsider Radio.

On today’s episode of Phinsider Daily, I break down the Dolphins Week 3 match-up vs their interstate rival the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With so much riding on tonight’s dress rehearsal, which players will seize the moment and prove their worth on the 53-man roster?  Can Josh Rosen close the gap between Ryan Fitzpatrick, or has a decision already been made internally?

How will the rest of the offense perform, and which of these players could be on the chopping black with 53-man roster cuts on the horizon?

We then turn our attention to the defense, and try to narrow down which player’s stock is up, and which is down.  How will the linebackers shape up, with key injuries to Kiko Alonso and Raekwon McMillan.  And what can we expect from the secondary heading into the regular season

All of this and much more, on this episode of Phinsider Daily.

In the midst of a legitimate quarterback battle and with many questions surrounding the OL and defense, we talk about Michael Deiter's impressive play at LG and Jerome Baker's ability to play three downs. We also talk about the Rosen/Fitzpatrick competition, as well as the evolution of Clemson's pass-rusher position (spoiler alert: it's come a long way in the past decade).

Today on Phinsider Daily, Matt Cannata takes a quick look at the long-term extension that Jakeem Grant just signed with the Miami Dolphins. What might they have in mind for Grant moving forward and why was he a priority even though he is fourth or fifth on the depth chart? Cannata looks at several possibilities.

He also looks at Brian Flores and the messages he is trying to send. He's sent quite a few in camp already, with Kenny Stills being the latest victim. In fact, he played 7-8 Jay Z consecutive songs at Tuesday's practice. This drama comes on the heels of Stills calling out Jay Z and his new social reform efforts with the NFL. What does it all mean, and is Stills nearing his end in Miami?

We also look at the infamous quarterback competition between Josh Rosen and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Who's going to come out on top? Flores may have left a few clues in his press conferences this week, but won't commit to a starter until at least Friday.

Be sure to join Cannata on Phinsider Daily for all of this and more regarding YOUR Miami Dolphins.

I have the one, the only, Kevin Nogle joining me in the studio this evening — the Managing Editor of The Phinsider, the gentleman who graciously brought a hick from southeast Ohio to join the website, will help me break down the prevalent questions permeating the Miami Dolphins roster.

~ Who will be the starting quarterback and what are the costs and risks involved in the decision?

~ Does it matter who will start if the OL can’t pass block?

~ How active will the Dolphins be looking at roster cuts after the trim down to 53?

On today’s episode of Phinsider Daily, I am joined by newborn daughter to break down the Dolphins’ third depth chart, ahead of their week 3 dress rehearsal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Why did Brian Flores name Ryan Fitzpatrick the starting quarterback, moments after giving praise to Josh Rosen-for how well he performed vs Tampa Bay?  How will the QB position play out in 2019, and what can we expect from Rosen when given his opportunity?

We then take a look at the rest of Miami’s offense, and predict how it might look ahead of the 2019 regular season.  Who will start at right tackle? How will the Dolphins’ receiving core shape up, and which players are on the bubble?

Lastly, we take a look at the Dolphins’ defense and wonder if this is the best unit on the roster?  How will the secondary look if Reshad Jones and T.J McDonald are not healthy?  And what can we expect from the linebackers, once Kiko Alonso and Raekwon McMillan return from injury.

All of this and much more, on this episode of Phinsider Daily.

I’ll interview former college and semi-pro QB Shane Tyler, current Film Room Director of the Pro Football Network. Shane also happens to be the best Dolphins tape studier you’ll find, informed by his playing experience. Follow him @SugaShane15!

~ What nuances does Preston Williams possess in his route tree?

~ Is it too early to panic about the offensive line?

~ Is Minkah Fitzpatrick getting miscast like his mom says?

Shane knows the tape better than most. I’m going to tee him up, sit back and relax, and let him explain some of the developments of camp and the preseason thus far.

On this edition of Phinsider Daily, Matt Cannata gives a rundown of Monday's joint practice between the Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Dolphins were exposed in several areas, with the offensive line being whipped around throughout the practice. What did Brian Flores have to say about it and is this something that we can expect to continue once the regular season begins? It looks dicey, to say the least.

Cannata also gives his take on the inquiries to Washington Redskins tackle Trent Williams and Houston Texans DE/LB Jadeveon Clowney. What are the details behind the trade, why are both of these trades difficult to pull off, and what does it mean for the future of the Dolphins? We can get some clues based on the actions they are taking now, even if a trade isn't completed for either player.

Tune into this edition of Phinsider Daily for the latest on your Miami Dolphins!

It's preseason time, and I Hate the Fins has plenty of takes regarding Josh Rosen's development, our favorite route-runners at the collegiate and pro level, the possibility that the cornerstone of Miami's defense is someone who doesn't wear Nos. 25 or 29, and whether second-year tight end Mike Gesicki can actually get it together for Miami this season.
