Artificial intelligence is a rapidly evolving technology, and the debate over how it is regulated in Australia continues to build.

Ahead of the Treasurer's productivity roundtable, the Productivity Commission has warned over-regulation could stifle billions in economic potential and productivity growth.

It's urged the federal government to take a light touch on regulating the technology.
