  • Bonus: a recording of the personal pep talk (in my car) that catalyzed a huge turnaround

I wonder how much might continue to change if I make a ritual out of listening to this recording every Monday 🧐

In last week's podcast, you heard me try to push through suppressed tears of frustration and defeat. Just a few days later, God graciously gave me an experience that prepared me to get up and get over my unbelief.

Listen and join me in the fight to hold on to determination, grit, purpose, and perspective, while letting go of doubt and defeat, so we can get back in the game to pursue what we are called to do.

  • 22: A message to those who feel like you're behind or failing | Our calling to rest

As 2019 and the 2nd decade of this millennium are coming to a close, this often stirs up two types of feelings:

Pride and celebration as you crush your goals and live up to your expectations of where you would be at x age, in x year, making $x amount, loving life to x extent,

Or disappointment, sadness, self-condemnation, or even frustration with God that your expectations and hopes haven’t been met.

Every person, no matter what side of the equation you sit on, needs to orient themselves to the truth that we are called to rest and REMEMBER God, not just do/work/win/be productive.

We are called to remember God’s character; His goodness, His mercy, His provision, and so much more.

We are called to remember our need for God and the fact that we have no lasting hope without Him. We cannot earn our own salvation or create a lasting sense of self-worth by what we do or don’t do.

We are called to Sabbath, observing rest, renewal, and remembrance with God and our true purpose (to know and glorify Him, not ourselves) before we work. There is a reason why the creation story in Genesis pictures the beginning of each day starting in the evening, with rest, instead of in the morning with work until we earn our rest and time in stillness with God.

  • 21: My Response to the Anti-Passion Movement | How our idea of "Following Your Passion" is all screwed up

Amidst a society of purpose-obsessed Millennials and upcoming Gen Z-ers, an anti-passion movement of nay-sayers has been gaining momentum over the last few years. They propose that following your passion is fruitless and unfulfilling, and will leave you stuck in analysis paralysis trying to find a dream job that doesn't exist.

In this episode, I will share why I agree that, by their skewed definition of the term, "following your passion" is indeed a problem.

You'll hear me share exactly what a passion is and how it should be considered in the context of other personal attributes to be able to make thorough, satisfying career decisions.

Listen to this episode to know how to avoid falling into the so-called "passion trap" while also dodging the opposite extreme of excluding yourself from a passion-filled career altogether.

  • 20: Brandon Knicely - Serial Entrepreneur integrating faith & work | a message to the young, ambitious Christian

Brandon Knicely is the Co-Founder of Third Drive, a consultancy here in Austin helping purpose-driven entrepreneurial ventures with their strategy, marketing, development, and growth.

From growing up in West Virginia and getting his start in mechanical engineering, he has since gleaned many career accomplishments, whether that be serving in an engineering capacity at IBM and NASA, to working in private equity or ministry, to raising over $150,000,000 in Tier 1 venture capital for a startup of his own, to now advising and building pathways for the success of other startups.

While all that is exceptionally impressive, the biggest impression that will be left on your heart after listening in on this conversation is that Brandon esteems his role as a disciple maximizing his gifts in service to the Lord higher then his esteem for the accolades he’s collected.

In this conversation you can look forward to hearing what Brandon has to share about:

    • How to thoughtfully craft a career that integrates your faith and work
    • Why Christians should use our ambition for the Lord, and how and why we should be embracing the opportunities we have to assume positions of power and influence
    • How to develop relationships with the right mentors (hint: just asking to get coffee with people you look up to and asking for their top 5 pieces of advice should not be your first strategy!)

      5. 17: Emily Morris - finding your calling isn't always a hyper-spiritual process

The path to finding one's calling often seems ultra-spiritual and mysterious, as if we are waiting for a voice in the wind to give us direct instructions for what to do with our life. Yet two words come to mind when reflecting on Emily Morris' path to finding and following her calling:

        Logical and linear.

Yep. She's one of those rare specimen that said "I'm going to be a music therapist" in the 10th grade, then actually did it...and still loves it.

But don't miss this vital distinction: Emily's path was not one of following her own will or doing whatever she wanted. It was a constant process of seeking to be obedient to GOD'S will.

Tune in to hear how she sought and found God's will for her life each step of the way.
