I've been thinking about doing a series of podcasts featuring one artist & the big hits of their careers for a while now. This is where the Essentials series has developed from. At this stage I'm going to focus on some of my favourite female singers & to kick it all off, I thought Britney Spears would be a good start. Like her or hate her (I admire her spirit & tenacity), Britney has had a huge impact on pop culture & recorded some of the biggest selling tracks in female vocal history. The February/March edition is all about Sydney's Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival. The events straddle Feb & March culminating in the parade & party, this year on March 1st. I decided to combine the 2 months into 1 podcast reflecting the amazing party atmosphere that envelops Sydney at this time of the year. The front part of this mix leans towards a solid club sound with commercial tracks by Zendaya, Shakira ft. Rihanna & Katy Perry. The Gold House club mix of "Dark Horse" is particularly good. The back half of the mix is pure hands in the air party anthems. Robbie Rivera's new track "What To Do Now" has brilliant builds & drops. The 7th Heaven mix of Enrique Iglesias' "I'm A Freak" has energy to spare as does JRMX's rework of The Saturday's "Not Giving Up". My favourite track however is Tina Arena's "Don't Hide". The 7th Heaven remix is truly beautiful & I'm wondering if Tina will sing it when she performs at the main Mardi Gras party as their featured artist. Happy Mardi Gras & Enjoy

Men: 5 is the latest in the series featuring male artists and groups. I've used several 7th Heaven mixes here because they always do amazing things with virtually every thing they touch. Union J's "Beautiful Life" is a perfect example. As is Ricky Martin's "Come With Me". I must admit, I quite like One Direction so I've included the excellent but short Steve Smart & Westfunk mix of "Best Song Ever". "We Own The Night" by The Wanted rounds out this edition. Men: 5 is full of commercial pop energy.

Back in the early days of the new millenium, Sydney drag Divas Chelsea Buns, Amelia Airhead, Tess Tickle and promoter/DJ Johan Khoury introduced a party to the Sydney scene called G.A.Y. It was an instant success and a whole lot of fun & I was fortunate enough to be one of the resident DJ's. 10yrs later, Johan has decided to do a summer revival of G.A.Y in 2013 & again, I am lucky to be one of the DJ's spinning at the event. We have had an amazing start to Spring this year in Sydney so I thought it was time to spring a new edition of Heaven. Number 2 is all uplifting vocal house. It's not so much about how new is the track, although there a few new ones such as Kamaliya's "I'm Alive", 7th Heaven's "Love Is Alive" & another great LFB remix of Debby Holiday's Dive '13". It's more about how good does it make you feel, such as Cher's classic "If I Could Turn Back Time" & Matt Consola's remake of "Dream Of Me" featuring Brenda Reed.
Cosmic Dawn also turn out a stunning mix of Pink's "Try".
